NELS JACOB JACOBSON PEEIILLEPS WISfiOliSIN.

Application filed August 14, 1922. Serial No. 581,?36.
T all from it may 00mm.-
Be it known that I New J. JAooBsoN, a citizen of the United states, and resident of Phillips, in the county of Price and State of 3 l/Visconsin, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Games, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is a game which is adapted primarily to be played by children and it no consists in the combinations, constructions and arrangements herein described and claimed.
An object of the invention is to provide a game which comprises relatively few parts and is of simple construction, and which is adapted for use to afiord entertainment and amusement, particularly to children.
A still further object of my invention is to provide a game of the character described which can be manufactured cheaply and which is thoroughly practical commercially.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent from the following description, and the novel features of the invention will be particularly outlined in the appended claim.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this application, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of a game or game board embodying the invention,
Figure 2 is a relatively enlarged top plan view of the device, and
Figure 3 is a fragmentary vertical sec tional view, showing a portion of the device substantially along the line 33 of Figure 1.
In carrying out my invention, I provide a base member 1 which may be made of any suitable material, such as wood, and which 40 is fashioned with a flat upper face. The base i'ember 1 is shown as being substantially uare or rectangular in shape, but may be any configuration desired. an annular series of spaced apart indentations, openings, index marks or depres sions of relatively small area in cross section are provided in the base member 1 to open through the upper face thereof, as indicated at 2 in Figs. 1 and 2. An upstanding post-,stud or pin 3 is secured to the base 1 centrally of the index marks or indentations A longitudinal indicator member has a hub portion 4 located somewhat nearer to one end thereof than to the other and mounted upon the upstanding post, stud or pin to rotate freely about the axis of the latter. The indicator member includes a pointer portion 5, which is relatively long and terminates in a beveled end portion 6 overlying the index marks or indentations 2 when the indicator member is rotated, and a handle or counter-balancing portion which extends from the hub portion 4; in axial alignment with the pointer portion and terminates short of the index marks or indentations A series of cavities or pockets 87in the upper face of the base 1 is provided, the respective pockets or cavities increasing co11 secutively in area from the smallest pocket or cavity of the series and conforming in number and arrangement with the index marks or indentations 2. Each of the pockets or cavities 8 is substantially elliptical in cross sectional contour and has the major axis thereof in coincidence with a portion of a line extending radially from the axis of the post, stud or pin 3 through one of the index marks or indentations 2. In the present instance the side walls of each pocket or cavity 8 converge together at the end of the pocket or cavity proximate to the central post, stud or pin 3 at a point adjacent to the corresponding index mark or indentation 2 and in a line leading radially through such index mark or indentation 2 to the axis of the post, stud or pin 3.
A series of characters, which in the pres ent instance are the numerals 1 to 12 inclusive are produced upon the base in association with the respective cavities or pockets 8, the character of lowest value being associated with the smallest pocket or cavity and the characters then being used sequentially in association with the cavities or pockets so that the character having the greatest value designates the cavity or pocket having the greatest area.
From the foregoing description of the various parts of the device, the operation thereof may be readily understood. In playing the game in the manner preferred by me, a plurality of counters, such as hazel nuts, or
other like objects may be employed. A plurality of children, from two to siX in number, may participate in playing the game. One of the players is appointed banker and holds a supply of the counters. At the beginning of the game, the banker places in the respective cavities or pockets 8 the quantities indicated by the characters associated with such pockets or cavities. The players spin the indicator in turn. Each player receives a predetermined number of the counters, sayten at the beginning of the game, and must account to the banker for the same at the conclusion of the game or during the playing thereof. Each player spins the indicator and when the same has stopped, takes from the pocket or cavity 8 the counters therein if the tip portion 6 of the pointer completely or partially covers the index mark or indentation in radial alignment with the particular pocket or cavity. If at that time, the particular cavity or pocket is empty, the player must place therein the quantity of counters which the particular pocketor cavity is to hold when filled as indicated by the number associated therewith. The object of the game of course is to acquire the greatest number of counters during the playing of the game.
Obviously, my invention .is susceptible of embodiment in forms other than that illus trated in the drawings, and I therefore consider as my own all modifications and adaptations of the form of the device herein disclosed, which fairly fall within the scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim is A device of the character described coinprisinn' a base having a substantially flat upper race, and a longitudinal indicator member pivotally supported upon the base for rotation about a vertical axis, said base having produced thereon a plurality of spaced openings or indentations arranged in a circle about the axis of the indicator member and in position to cooperate with the latter and having also a cavity or pocket in the up per face thereof in adjacent relation to each of said first named openings or indentations and at a greater distance from the axis'oi the indicator member than the openings with which associated, said cavities or pockets increasing uniformly in size in sequence from a certain cavity or pocket, and having associ ated therewith a series of characters varying directly in value with the size of the. cavity.
