Drain plugs are provided in the shell of the boiler to permit the drum 48 to be cleaned.
Har ng thus described our invention what we claim is:
1. In a boiler operating under forced di aft, the combination, with the smoke stack, the front and rear flue plates and their connecting fines; of a chamber immediately adjacent each flue plate and in which flames, hot gases and smoke are present; and a combined draft equalizer and products of combustion deflector consisting solely of an imperforate deflecting element of less area than the adjacent flue plate suspended vertically in one of said chamb rs in rear of the smoke stack opposite and in spaced relation to the flue openings and with its margin continuously spaced from the circumferential alls of said chamber so as to cause the flames, hot gases and smoke to be drawn by the forced draft: around the marginal edges of said deflecting element in a uniform manner; substantially as described. V
2. In a boiler operating under forced draft, the combination, with the smoke stack, the smoke-box and fire-box and the w front and rear flue plates and their connecting flues, of a combined d aft equalizer and products of combustion deflector consisting solely of an imperforate deflector plate of less area than the front flue plate disposed vertically within the smoke-box in rear of the smoke stack but in front of, and in spaced relation to, said front flue plate, and a series of brackets mounted in the smokebox for suspending the deflector plate therein with its marginal edges spaced from the circumferential walls thereof, so as to cause the forced draft in the smoke-box to draw the flames, hot gases and smoke from the lire-box through said flues and around the said marginal edges of the deflector plate in a uniformly distributed manner.
3. In a boiler operating under forced draft, the combination of a smoke box; flue tubes passing through the boiler and terurinatingat their forward ends at a,tube sheet in the smoke box; and a single ele- -ment acting as a combined draft equalizer and products of combustion deflector disposed vertically in the smoke box adjacent the tube sheet and having a marginal outline which parallels that formed by the peripheral tubes in the tube sheet and which lies in immediate proximity to'the said tube outline, whereby the area of the surface of the deflector confronting said tubes is substantially equal to the area of the tube zone of the tube sheet, said deflector being so arranged with relation to the tube sheet that the products of combusion are caused by the forced draft to pass over the entire con-' front ng surface of the deflector in aradial direction and around the marginal edges thereof, and so that the forced draft in each flue tube is substantially equal to the draft in each of the other flue tubes.
in testimony whereof we have affixed our signatures.
