Be it known that I, CARL C. ElARRIS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Orange, in the county of Franklin and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Package, of which the following 1s a specification. r

This invention relates to a package for use in holding a convenient number oi eyelets, paper fasteners, thumb tacks or the like, and providing for dispensing them in a COHVQIP ient manner.

The principal objects oi the invention are to provide a package oi? the above mentioned type for the purpose of avoiding the difiiculties oi bulky packages. especially the liability of their being tipped over; to providemeans whereby a material saying in time is effected by locating each individual article in such a way that it can he slid out of the holder or package readily and will be located at a definite point and right side up ready to be used; and to provide a package of this kind that can be made of paper, celluloid, or other sheet material in an inexpensive and attractive form.

Further objects and advantages of the invention will appear hereinafter.

I have shown the invention in a simple form in which it involves a main or base m mber 10, preferably of paper or cardboard. However, it can be made of celluloid or other sheet material. It is shown as rectangular in form and as having a series of pairs of longitudinal slits ll. At one or both ends these slits are cut hackwardlv by angular slits 12 for a purpose that will ap pear. This provides a longitruiliual support ing strip 13 extending: all the way along between the two slits ll. This hipportin; strip 13 is integrally connected with main body 10 at the ends of the slits ll. it will be noticed also that this all'ords two yielding side members 1.4 conunising that part of the card-board or other material located between the two slits 12 on each side of each strip 13. hese are integrally connected with the main body 10 at a distance from the slits 11 and are otherwise t'rec theret'ron'i and capable 0t yieding to permit of the en trance and removal oi the eyelets l, but stitl enough to engage their bottom flanges or heads and hold them in position in the de vice.

At the end. of the member l it is turned backward at 20 and nreterably this backwardly extending overlapping strip 20 is reinforced by a fasteningmember 21 so as to hold it substantially in the position shown in Fig. ()n the other end of the member 10 there is a cover 2 3 integrally connected with the base but bent alonga transverse line 24 so that it can be turned over as shown in dotted lines in Fig. :2 under the end ol the overlapping: strip 20. Thus it covers the eyelets and prevents their accidental displacement.

ll'ith a construction such as shownit will be seen that a definite number of eyelets can he applied to this card and sold with it in a most convenient manner. that the eyelets will he held with suthcient safety especially on account of the use of the cover. and that they are not likely to become accidentally dislodged. At the same time they are so easily inserted and replaced that the filling can he done by machinery and they can be taken out one at a time by any person without experience or skill. and will always be delivered right side up on the surface of the member 10 between the ends of the slit and the end of the card. Thus they are in posi tion for use at once without the necessity of turning them over and rearranging them. The discharo'c of one of the eyelets is indicated in dotted lines in Fig. 3.

ln this way a very simple and inevpensiyc sale package is provided and one which can be used by the ultimate consumer in an extrcniely convenient way and at small ex house. The package can be used tor other headed article as. for example. thumb tucks. and convenient to use as a letter enclosure.

As an article of manufacture, a package comprising a base member of sheet material having a plurality of pairs of longitudinal slits arranged in parallel and spaced relation to each other and extending through the base member and having between them a series of strips depressed below the plane 0t said base member and connected with the base member and each extending in one continuous piece from one end of said slits to the other for receiving and supporting the headset a phi ality of rows of the articles to be supported which rest on the strips With their shanks projecting up above the base member through the space between the slits and having means for admitting the heads under them and permitting their discharge therefrom longitudinally of the slits.

As an article of manufacture, a device for the purpose specified comprising a base member having two parallel slits therethrough providing a single strip between them integrally connected with the base member at both ends for receiving a row of headed articles over said stri and under the edges of the base member adjacent to said slits. said base member having slits therethrough connected with the first named slits attheir ends and each making an acute angie therewith and extending backwardly adjacent thereto on the outer sides thereof for leaving thecdges of the base member near the first named slits tree.
