learner user ALBERT SCHWAGER, OF KREU'ZLINGEN, SWITZERLAND.
HAND VISE.
Application filed February 28, 1921.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that T, ALBERT SOHWAGER, a citizen of the Swiss Confederation, residing at lireuzlingen, Switzerland, have invented new and useful Improvements in a Brand Vise, of which the following is a specification.
Jiy invention relates to a handwise and has for its object to fix the jaws of the vise by certain means.
Reference is to be had to accompanying drawing.
It shows:
Fig. 1 a front view of the hand-vise.
Fig. 2 a section through line a-o of Fig. i.
Fig. a partial view of the leg and the jaw.
The legs of the hand-vise l and 4 have an oifset for the jaw and carry the jaws 5 and 6, which are pivoted in 9 and 10. The le s 1 and 4 can be drawn together by the screw 3, which carries the head 11, and the thumb-nut 2. The jaws are formed in the back so that the offset just fits into the hollow part of the leg as it is shown by the line 46 in Fig. 2. The pins 9 and 10 keep the jaws only in place without taking up any pressure Therefore the pins 9 and 10 have a little play in the holes of the jaws. Very often itis necessary to fix the jaws against the offset of the leg and a construction is used like shown in the section of Fig. 2. it is necessary, that the locking device for the jaw must be placed inside of the jaw for the purpose that the surface of the jaw has to be entirely smooth. No projections are allowed on the outside of the jaw. In many cases the projections would make Serial No. 448,581.
it impossible to finish the piece, placed between the aws, in a proper way. Therefore two holes and 47 are drilled into the leg 1. The jaw 6 is furnished with a countersunk hole 48 like a seat for the ball and a groove 42. The latter has such an extension around the surface of the jaw 6, that the jaw, as soon as the ball 40 rests into the hole and the groove 42 can move backward and forward. As soon aS the ball 40 rests into the holes 47 and 48, the jaw 6 is lined to the leg 1 and cannot move. The same construction as that used for leg 1 and j aw 6, is used for leg 4 and jaw 5. Therefore in case both jaws 5 and 6 should be lined to th legs 1 and 4, the balls 39 and 40 are put into the holes 50, 41 and 47, 48. In case the jaws should be loose, th covers 48 and 44 are turned around the screws 37, 38, and the balls are placed from holes, mentioned above, into the holes 45, 52 and grooves 51,42 The covers are placed in the same way like shown in Fig. 2.
I claim:
In a hand-vise a jaw and a leg provided with an offset, means for firing the jaw comprising a locking device consisting of a ball, a groove and a seat in the jaw, said oifset of the leg being provided with two holes, a cover to cause the locking of the jaw as soon as the ball rests on the seat of the jaw and the unlocking of the aw when the ball rests in the groove of the jaw, the whole lockin device placed inside of the jaw for the purpose of keeping the surface of the jaw entirely smooth.
In witness whereof I affix my signature.
ALBERT SCHWAGER.
