PL FKIK CARRYING HARNESS Filed Nov. 29. 1921 Patented Nov. 6, 1923.
UNITED stares PATENT OF I i CARRYING HARNESS.
Application filed November 29. 1921.
T all whom it may con-Germ Be it known that I, HENRY F101;, a citizen of the United States, residing at Menominee, in the county of Menominee and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Carrying Harness; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to a carrying harness of the type useful in supporting a bucket or receptacle from the person as when berrying in order thatthe hands may be free.
An important object is to provide in an article of this kind a flexibly adjustable metallic frame to serve as the supporting means and a belt to cooperate with said frame to adjust it to the person and to secure it in place.
Another object is to provide the frame referred be made material andwhich may have supporting hooks formed by bending the terminals.
A further object is to provide an article of this kind which is exceedingly simple in construction and capable of manufacture at low cost.
Additional objects and advantages will become apparent from a consideration of the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing illustrating one practical embodiment and wherein:
Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the carrier in place on the body of a user; and
Figure is a perspective view of the carrying harness alone.
Like reference characters designate like and similar parts in each view.
In reducing the invention. to practice, shoulder straps 3 are provided of arched formation which are spaced apart by means of a. bridge 4: adapted to engage the back of the user. Said straps 3 at the front have elongated arms 5 extending therefrom which terminate in hooks 6. The frame described namely straps 3, bridge 4, arms 5 and hooks 6 are preferably made in a single piece and to of such construction that it may. in a single piece from wire or bar Serial No. 518,625.
from flexible or bendable metallic wire or other strand material.
The straps 3 are adapted to rest onthe shoulders as shown in Figure 1 and bridge a engages the back relatively close to the shoulders. A belt 7 is provided which may be of the usual leather or other flexible construction and which may be attached to the frame described or separate therefrom as desired. As shown, said belt '7 is stitched or otherwise secured to the frame as at 8. A buckle for the ends of the beltis shown at 9 to enable adjustment thereof as usual according to the girth of the users waist. The belt of course is disposed about the waist of the user under the arms and 00- operates with the arches 3 to prevent detachment of the harness. As the frame is flexible, the belt 7 may be secured in place so as to fit the body of the user and its adjustment, arches 3 will move the arches 3 relatively to accommodate them to the body of the user- It will be noted that a considerable distance 4.. Such construction enables disposition of the bucket or other receptacle in a position at the most desirable elevation.
Detachably connected with the hooks 6 are eyelets 10 formed integral with a pail supporting bar 11. Extending from bar. 11 is a supporting hook 12 upon which a pail or other receptacle 13 may be hung.
With this device in place 011 the body of the user, the pail or receptacle 13 is supported independently of the hands so that the latter may be free for berrying or other purposes. en the pail is to be the arms 5 extend due to the flexibility of the" below the bridge removed and carried, the bar 11 may be detached from the hooks .6 so as to serve as an elongated handle for the pail and which will be of greater diameter than the hail of the pail 13 soas to be more comfortable and avoid the annoying impressions made in the hands by theusual pail under a load. -Of course the receptacle or bucket may have its bail detached from the hook 12 and carried by means of said bail if desired. Where the load of the pail or receptacle is heavy, the use of the bar 11 is advantageous. V
As merely one practical understood that changes in embodiment has it is to be the details may be resorted to within the spirit and scope 5 of the claim.
WVhat I claim as my invention, is
A carrying harness tallic strand formed into consisting of a mea frame having spacedv shoulder straps, a securing belt to the 10 rear of which said straps free ends of the strap depen are fastened, the
ding at the frontbelow the belt and terminating in fastening members, and an elongated supporting member bridging said ends and having fastening members detaehably engaging the first mentioned fastening members.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
