' stapl-plate is providecl with a pair cf swiveljointed fasteners, which operate in conncction with thc ordi'nary slotted hasp, to preven it from accidental unfastcning, all as hereinafter described.

In the accompanying drawing, Figurc l is a front elevation cf a haspfwstener which embodies my imention, aml Fig. 2 is ib vcrtical section 0f thc szune 011 line w 00 0f Fig. l.

B designatcs the ordinary staple-plate; but, instcad 0f the ordinary staplc, I employ a pa'u cf fasteners, a b a, b. These fastcners euch consist of two arms, which arms, at the inside corncr of each fastener, stand ab about ri'ght angles to each other. 0116 arm, a, cf each fastener a b is provided with a tcnon, which paSses through the staple-plate, und is headcd, so as t0 loosely turn therein, after ehe manncr of 2b swivcl, whercby the arms b b, which are parallel With the plate B, can be easily turned, so as 130 project beyond the sides o1 end 0f the slot in the hasp A. Thc lcngth 0f the arms b b is such,

I am 2LWEL1G thac a sin g1c fastener, similar t0 the fastener a b, has been previously uscd, but is obj ectionablc, inasmuch zus, in handling boxes fastened with such hasps, they am sometimes tnrned bottom side upward, aml zus thc fastcncr turns 0f its own weight, it will, when ehe b0x is W1011g sidc up, fall directly in front cf the s10t in the hasp, and allow i t0 slip oft.

By the, employment cf a pair cf fastencrs, arrangcd as dcscribed, cithcr 0ne 01 thc othcr 0f thc1n will always project beyond thc sidc 01 end 0f the slot in tl1e hasp, 110 1i1attc r in whab position the box up0n which thc hasp is may be placecl, 2u1d thcrcby any possibilioy of its unfastcning, except by dcsign, is prcventcd.
