Description

@ci. 30 1923. A 1,47%42 A. BETTINARDI CLOTHE'SLINE CLAMP Filed April 18 1922 4 mum INVENTOR ATTOH/VE Patented @ct. SQQlQJZE.
lllhlllTlElfD) ANTON BETTINARDI, OF JERSEY CITY, NEW JERSEY.
CLOTHESLINE CLAMP.
Application filed April 18, 1922.
T all whom it may concern:
Be itknown that I, ANTON BETTINARDI, a citizen of the United States, residing at Jersey City, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Clothesline Clamp, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to clamping devices and more particularly to a novel. and improved clothes line clamp wherein the slack in the rope may be easily taken up with facility and case to render the clothes line taut and prevent sagging between its ends.
The primary object or" the invention is the provision of clothes line clamp where in the body of the said clamp may be formed of a single piece of metal permitting one end of the clothes line to be secured thereto and the opposite end secured and clamped thereon in proper position to render the clothes line taut.
A continued and important object of the invention is the provision of a clothes line clamp wherein one end of the rope may be trained therethrough and the opposite end secured to the body of the clamp including lever operating means pivotally connected to the struck up sides of said clamp whereby the rope may be properly secured when the same is drawn tightly between the pulley supporting members.
lVith these and other objects in view the invention consists in the construction and novel combination of parts hereinafter "fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and pointed out in the subject matter being claimed. it being understood that various changes in the form, proportion, size and minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention.
In the drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of the clamp.
Figure 2 is a longitudinal section.
Figure 3 is a detail section of the pivotal connection.
Figure 4ris a view showing the invention and its application.
Referring now to the drawings wherein like reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, 5 designates any conventional support having a hook 6 and pulley 7 suspended therefrom and numeral 8 designates a corresponding pulley secured to a hook 9 or Serial No. 554,921.
other fastening element for supporting the clothes line 10. The clamping device proper consists of a substantially rectangular piece of metal 11, the ends 12 and 13 of which are struck upwardly and downwardly in opposite directions each being provided with an aperture for receiving the clothes line above referred to.
The downwardly struck portion 13 is adapted to secure the knotted end of the clothes line and as shown, the opposite end of the line is trained through the aperture in the upwardly struck portion 12 and 6X- tends between a pair of ears 1a struck .up from the material or body 11 of the clamp substantially intermediate the ends thereof. A curved lever arm 15 pivotally supported on the transversely extending pin 16 between the ears 14 is provided with an enlarged head 17 the bottom of which is formed with a curved groove 15 which clamps the free end of the clothes line on the base of the clamp body. The curved end 15 of the lever arm 15 is so disposed that the same can easily be raised from its full to the dotted line position to release the rope so that when the free end of the same is gripped and pu led, the clothes line can-be made taut and the lever 15 depressed to its look ing position thus clamping the rope.
While I have illustrated and, described my invention with some degree of particularity, I realize that in practice various alterations therein may be made. I therefore reserve the right and privilege of changing the form 01" the details of construction or otherwise altering the arrangement of the correlated. parts without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is A rope clamp of the class described comprising a plate having oppositely disposed bent ends provided with apertures to receive a rope trained therethrough the material of said plate having upwardly struck ears on each side thereof and substantially intermediate the ends, a curved lever pivotally connected to the said ears, said lever having an enlarged grooved head at its pivoted connection for clamping a rope on the plate.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
ANTON BETTINDI. [n a]
