innate WILBER'I P. MOORE, OF VJOBLAND, WYOMING.
SPARK-PLUG 'rnsrnn.
Application filed March 27, 1922.
T all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, VVILBERT P. Moons, a citizen of the United States, residing at \Vorland, in the county of \Vashakie and State of Wyoming, have invented new and useful Improvements in Spark-Plug Testers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a device for testing the ignition circuit of an internal combustion motor, the principal object of the invention being to provide means on the spark plugs for short circuiting the same to tell whether or not the electric system is in proper condition.
Another object of the invention is to attach the device to the plug in such a manner that it can be moved into operative and inoperative position as required.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement 01" the sev eral parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing my invention in detail reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a plan View of aplug constructed in accordance with my invention.
Figures 2 and 3 are detail views.
In these views 1 indicates a spark plug which may be made of any desired type and Serial No. 547,044.
2 indicates my device which is preferably of U-shape and formed of spring metal, the legs engaging opposite sides of the shell of the plug and being pivotally secured thereto by means of the pivot points 3 on the legs engaging recesses 4 on the plug.
This arrangement of parts will permit the device to extend at right angles fromthe plug, when it will be in inoperative position, or to permit it to be swung towards the outer end of the plug so as to come adjacent the electrode of the plug to short circuit the same, thus giving a spark if the circuit is closed. If a spark does not occur this will be proof that something is wrong with the electric system.
By this invention it will be seen that the system can be easily and quickly tested without removing the plugs or applying tools thereto.
It is thought from the foregoing descrip tion that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes tall with in the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is A device of the class described comprising a strip of spring metal bent into U- shape and having pivot points punched. in its legs for engaging recesses in the shell of a spark plug.
In testimony whereof I alilx my signature.
WILBEltT P. MOORE.
