ln the mmication illustrated in Figure 2 the piston '21 is reciprocated in a cylinder 3 having double heads 22 forming compartments X and Y, provided with intake valves 5' and exhaust valves 6', so that upon movement of the compression stroke of the piston in compartment Yl suction will be caused in the compartment X and vice versay thus utilizing Jior the pumping action only one piston and cylinder as compared with two in the preferred form illustrated 1n Figure l.
From the foregoing description taken in4 connection with the accompanying drawings, it is thought that a clear and comprehensive understanding of the construction, operation, and advantages of the invention may be had,.but While l have shown and described the device as embodying a s cific structure, li desire it to be understo' that changes ma be made in said structure as do not depart rom the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed,
What il claim is:
1. ln combination with a rotatable sha-tt, means of the type ldescribed including pistons eccentrically connected with the shaft, a plurality of communicating chambers ar- :o er within each other, one of said chambe receiving the pistons, valves for con-v trolling circulation oi fluid through said chambers upon reciprocation of the pistons, and a valve for closing communicatlon between said chambers to induce compression to retard reciprocation of said pistonsv to regulate the rotation of the shaft.
2. The combination with a drive element and a driven element, of a casing, partitions in the casin dividing the same into a circulating cham r and a compression chamber, valves for eecting communication between the compion chamber and circulating chamber, cylinders, pistons in -said cylinders, eccentrically mounted on the other element, straps on the eccentrios connected with the pistons for reciproing the inf/naar pistonsupon rotation of the element on' which they are mounted, to e'ect circulation of iuid from the circulation chamber to the compression chamber, a valve for opening and closing communication between the compression chamber and circulation chamber whereby. to increase or decrease compression inthe compression chamber for retarding or stopping the reci rocation of the pistons to e'ect rotationv o the casing with the element piston carried element, and the casing connected vwith the driven lelement for eiiecting more or le complete transmission of power from the drive to the drivenv element.
3. The combination with a drive element and a driven element, of a casing, partitions in the casing dividin the same into a circulating chamber an a compression chamber, valves tor e'ecting communication between the compression and circulating chambers, cylinders, pistons in said cylinders, eccentrically mounted on the drive element, straps on the eccentric connected with the pistons for reciprocating the pistons upon rotation oi? the drive element, to effect circulation of fluid from the circulation chamber to the compression chamber, a valve for opening and closing communication between the compression and circulation chambers whereb to increase or des` crease compression in t e compression chamber for retarding or stopping the reciprocahaving alined chambers, mean-s for edectingcirculation of iluid through said chambers, check valves for controlling the circulation of the fluid through the chambers, and means connected with the drive element for compressing the fluid upon the shutting .off of circulation, to e'ect a more or less complete transmission of power from the drive to thedriven element.
