To all whom t may concern: v Be it known thatl, MYERMETZGERia citizen of the United States7 'residing at Chicago,` in the county ofv Cook and'rSt'ate of i Illinois, have invented certain new and useful VImprovements in Food-Display Covers, ofk which the following is aspeciiCatiQn.
` -Heretofore it hasbeencustomary to placek over a receptacle containing food or other c 10 articles to be displayed, a transparent cover embodying one or more' hingedsections, and in order to maintain the cover'in position' c when the container is inclined'orvstan'ds uprightly on one j side, it has beenVK customary to provide a fastening device adapted'to' be applied to the container and cover7 but this form of fastening device is objectionable because oftentimes the vfastening device is I misplaced'vor lost; In other instances fl-{St-Glliing screws have been yemployed which' were' passed through apertures in the frame of the cover and into the bodylof the receptacle 4or container, 'thereby necessitating theV em-V ployment of tools for both the application .2.5 and removal of the fasteningdevice.

Wall of the receptacle 10 as vat 26, when the fastening device 22 ,is `moved into'the positions shown in Figures 3, l yand Connected preferably `with the iianged portion 21 of the hinge member 18 is a ydepending projection 27-and the fastening device 22 is constructed of material which is 2,7 is such that when the fastening device 22 is moved .aboutits pivot 23. so `as to cause preferably slightly flexible. The projection theportion 25 to vembed itself in the Wall of i the receptacle 10, it will engage the upperl surface of the fastening device 22 and depressy the Vlatter Auntil fthe handle 24 yassnimes a position to permit the projectionVv 2'? to plassfbehind the fastening device, thereby locking the fastening device yin its adjusted position. When it is desired to unfasten or release theV cover so aste vdetach it from the receptacle, the
device is depressed slightly until the end of the projection 2 7 is cleared, after which the'v fastening device may be moved about its pivot in a kdirection to release the cover.
if desired an elasticme'mber 28 preferably inthe' form of a coilspring is connected as ait 29 vviththe vhinge member 19 with the 'hinge member 18. This elastic and as at 30 lniemlier tends to hold vthe swinging cover section in a closed Vposition but Will ryield l sufiicientlyto permit the cover section 12 to the interior ofthe'receptacle 10.

The fastening de vice being permanently connectedwith one of the, hinge members Will always be in position for use. Y
`While .the preferred forms of the inven-V tion have Abeen herein shown rand described it is ktobeunder'stood, that various changes maybe made inthe details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the Aseveral parts, Within the scope of the claims, without departing from the spirit of this invention.
