lLMPRovEMENT IN DENTAL APPARATUS For: oiaTAlNlNG THE BITE.
Specification forminglr part'of Letters Patent No. 147,025, dated February 3, 1874; application tiled September 22, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDGAR O. SMITH, of the city of Albany, in the county of Linn and State of Oregon, have invented a new and useful machine for obtaining what is known in dentistry as the bite, called Smiths Apparatus for Obtaining the Bite; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The nature of the invention is to secure the true bite after obtaining impressions of the mouth for plates of false or manufactured teeth.
K K is a circular bar of iron, having an aperture in the center. I is a bar of iron passing through the aperture in the circular bar K K. EE are apertures for the ngers, attached to the circular bar K K. F is a spring, attached to the circular bar K K, and used for the purpose of holding the bar I in any given position. G G are notches on the bar I, into which the spring F enters, to hold the bar I in position. H is a common ivory knob on the end of the bar I. C is a chin-pad on the other end of the bar I. D D are hooks on each end of the circular bar K K. B B are two leather straps extending from the hooks D D to the hooks A A. A A are screws with hooks, attached to the head-rest on any dental chair.
