IMPROVEMENT IN THE CONSTRUCTION AND MODE 0F LOADING FIRE-ARMS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 147, dated March 11, 1837.
To all whom, it may concern:
Elmira, in the county of Ohemung and State of New York, have invented an Improvement in the Construction and Mode of Loading Fire- Arms, of which the following is aspecification.
The tube-guns have their loads put in tubes made for that purpose. The tubes are made of suitable metal and long enough to contain the whole charge, with an arm to reach out beyond the thickness of the barrel to receive percussion caps or pills and the application of a cock. The tubes are solid at the end where the arm is placed. The barrels of said guns are reamed out for the tube and a seat for the arm of said tubes, so that the tube, its arm, and the barrel are all flush at the butt of the barrel. \Vhen said tubes are inserted in the barrel, it is secured by means of a stirrup pass.
