J. SEDVIEK SCAFFOLD HANGER Filed June 5, 1921 Patented @at 9, i923.

Application Vfiled. June 3,
To whom t may concer/n Be it known that l, JOHN SEDVIEK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Seattle, in the county of King and State of Wash# ington, have invented certain new and'useful lmprovementsin yticaifold Hangers;l and I do hereby declare the following to be full1 clear. and exafft description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to new andv useful improvements in seaifoldY hangers and has for its primary object the provision of means for easily and quickly attaching the hoisting mechanism of a scaffold to a building ,and which will increase its holding'action on the building as the weight andV strain is increased thereo-n.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a scaifold hanger of the above stated character which will be simple, du-
rable and efficient. and which may be manufactured and sold at a comparatively low cost.
Vlith these and other objects in view as l tion proceeds, the invention consists in certain novel features of` constructiomcombination, and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully claimed. a
For a complete understanding of my invention. reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view illustrating4 my invention supporting a scaffold toa building',
Figure 2 is a side elevation illustrating one of the gripping elements, A
Figure 3 is a rear elevation illustrating the same.
Referring in detail to the drawings, the numeral l indicates a platform of a scaiold and which is equipped adjacent each end with block and tackle 2. The blocks and Vtackles have connected thereto gripping el edescribed and 1921. serial Na'ivmsa cifically is thought .suilicient for'both. The gripping element-s 3 consist-of a body (i whivh has formed-integrally with one endY a curved jaw 7 and the other end of the body 6 has formed integrally therewith .arms 8. The arms 8 forashort distance eX- tend in spaced parallel relation as'illustrated at 9 and then are 'bent to extend in diverging planes and are adapted when applied to a building to rest against the wall curved jaw 12 adapted to cooperate with` the jaw? in gripping the roof of the build-V ing, while 'thelever ll'e-Xtends outwardly from the wall. of the building and is provided with an opening 13 to receive the hooks 14 of the blocks and tackles 2.y
The end of the jaw 12 is serrated to aid its grippingl action on the building.
The levers 11 of the gripping elementsV lare disposed substantially horizontally in respect to the building and theV blocks and tackles depend downwardly therefrom, thus the gripping action of the aws on the roof will be increased as the weight and strain on `the platform increases. The gripping elements 3 permit quick attachment ofthe scaffold to a building and also will permit adjustment of the scafoldhorizontally in respect to the building.
While haveAV shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it will be understood that minor changes'in construction, combination, and arrangement of parts may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the inven-l tion asclaimed. Having thus described my invention what I claim is Y Y Y A scaffold hanger comprising a one-piece body bifurcated to provide spared arms pro-l vided ivith parallel portions and outwardly diverging portions ext-ending therefrom and adapted at their free ends to abut a building, said` body being relatively thick and having a jaw at the other end to engage the Y building, a lever pivoted intermediate said parallel portion of the arms to the body and
