Be it known that I, Bnn'NAi-zn SorrnAM, a vcitizen of Austria, residing at Paterson, in the county ot Passaic and State of New Jersey, have inventedcertain new and useful improvements in VVarping Machines, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to the operation of preparing Aa warp for a loom. Accordi-ng to a common method of preparing a warp for a loom groups of threads, called seo tions, are wound one after another and side by side `on the reel o1P4 a warping ma chine, thus to form the entire width of warp,
and when this has been `done all the sec tions are unwound at once from the reel onto the beam which goes into the loom as the warp-beam. The leading ends of all the warp-sections are placed, on starting to wind them on the reel, in registry with the same lradial plane of thereel, and every section should be cut offat the same distance Jfrom the leading ends kot the sections as everyother', so that all the threads in the warp will be of identical length. In addition, at certain points in 4each sectioncertain devices, as cvutfmarks Vto indicate lineal measurement orulease cords to maintain crosses Vin .the sections, have to `be inserted, and thesein a perfectly prepared warp 'should register in all the sections so that those that cor-respond will all be in the `same transverse line in the warp as a whole. Heretofore there has been n o ef*- ticient means for indicating to the warper when the winding of a section should stop, the proper length having 'been wound on the reel, or when the devices, as Vcut-marks or lease cords, should be inserted; .the ordinary means is a simple dial which is turned by the reel and with ,which a liXed pointer cooperates, buty this is unreliable because the warper is apt, in attendingto his numerous :duties incident to theactual warping, to overlook the indicator thus afforded until .the point predetermined on the dial has passedthe pointer. My object is to provide a warping machine with an indicating means which by the closingoacircuit will cause an electric light to be lighted, theadvantages ofvwhich are that it not only gives a signal but does so ina way to keep the signal operative Ytoranyldesired period of time, as explained later, so that the warpercannoti-.failto observe it, and so as not to be a source of annoyance or con- MACHINE.

On a part ot the frame, as a bracket `yw ot metal, Figs. 2 to 4t, one end of a horizontal strip of iibre or other insulation is secured in parallel relation to the wheel 0, the strip having a longitudinal slot y] receiving a binding post a and a screw 2 which afford its securing means; the slot permits the strip to be adjusted longitudinally. The other end of the strip is penetrated by the stem 3 which has a nut i screwed on it below the strip and above the strip a washer 5 and also screwed on it a binding nut 6; when the nuts 4 and 6 are screwed up tight they bind a stop or stop plate 7 having its tree end downturned, between nut i and the strip. On the` lower end ot the stem 3 is freely pivoted by the head 3 of the stem, lever 8 havdownturned and being normally held against the downturned end of said stop by a spring 9 connecting said lever with the insulating strip. rihe downturned end of the lever stands inthe path of movement ot the studs o on the aforesaid contacts, so that when the wheel rotates in the direction of the arrow in Fig. 2 the studs will successively obtain Contact therewith, the lever moving aside until the stud in each thereupon springing back against the stop. The lever thus forms a yielding terminal contact.

n Figs. 7 and 8 the form of the contacts 1' on the wheel is changed to suit the form ot' the wheel, which is spolreless and is provided with a circumferential lateral rib 13 on which the contacts are clamped.
Before starting the Ywarping operation the warper places the contacts 1 thereon in ceras by being supported for more or less time until contact fr' clears Y contact 8. Seeing the light the warper displaces the prop Z and stops the machine and having attended'to the matter to which his attention was called by the light starts the machine anew, whereupon the signal will be again given, of course, when the next contact r engages contact 8.
Having thus fully described my invention,
what l claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is y 1. A warping machine including anv open circuit having terminal contact means at the break therein and containing a signal and an energy source, revoluble means including a reel on which to wind the warp, and a succession ot circuit closing devices for said circuit clamping at intervals a peripheral portion of said revoluble means and slidably adjustable thereon independently oit each other in the direction in which it moves in the winding of the warp and also in the reverse direction, each of said devices being adapted during the movement oit said movable means to wipe in contact with and past the terminal contact means.
2. A warping machine including an electro-conductive frame, electroconductive ymeans movable in the frame in electro-conductive contact therewith and including a reel on which to wind the warp, wiring grounded at one end on the frame and containing a signal and an energy source, and contacts one at the other end of the wiring and the other adjustable on said means in the direction in which it moves in the winding of the warp and-also reversely thereto, the latter contact being movable with said means into contact withthe other contact.

A warping machine including an electro-conductive frame, electro-conductive means movable in the frame in electro-conductive contact therewith and including a reel on which to wind the warp, an insulation piece7 an electro-conductive device securing said piece to the frame, wiring` hav- 'ing one end held by said device to said pieceI and containing a signal and an energy source, and contacts one at the other end of the wiring and on said piece and the other adjustableon said means in the direction in which it moves in the wincing ot the warp and also reversely thereto, the 'latter contact being movable with said means into Contact with the other contact.
