ApplicatiOn led May 18, 1922. Serial No. 561,796.
To all 'whom t may concern.' A, e Be it known that I, Dnzs BoJ'ros, a citizen of Czechoslovakia, residing at Roebling. in the county of Burlington and State of ll ew Jersey, have invented certain new and usefullmprovements in Waterproof Boots, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to boots and shoes being intended more particularly for embodiment in boots, such as are worn by miners, lumbermen or other laborers.
The invention has for an object to provide a novel construction of water proof boot, and one also having proper provision for ventilation.
For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are morev particularly set forth. y Fig. l of the drawings is a side elevation, partly in vertical section, of a boot constructed according to my invention.
Fig. 2 is a transverse vertical sectional view taken on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1.
Figf?) is a fragmentary longitudinal vertical section showing the boot provided 30 with Ventilating means.
Referring now to Figs. 1 and 2, the boot is of ordinary outline and ishere shown .as the non-lacing type and comprises a heel 10, sole l1, and an upper, indicated generally sists of an outer member 14 of heavy leather such as oak tanned cowhide, in whichis a waterproof lining 14 made from thegbladder of a steer or pig, this lining extending also across the sole l1 under the insole 15,
y the sole 1l being secured to this upper meinber 15 by means of wooden pegs. The water l the shoe has projecting upwardly therefrom f series of studs 2O of rubber whichare spaced evenly throughout the sole. Upon again rests on the sole.
at l2, and comprising the usual foot and4 leg engaging portions. The boot upper conv side with arlining 16 of sheep skin. With these studs an insole rests 2l. leading downwardly. through the back of the boot upper 1l from the top edge thereof are a pair of tubes Y22 and 23v respectively which may be of .rubber wound with wire. The lower ends of these tubes have attached thereto valve casingl 24E and 25 in which are ball valves 26 and 27 respectively, the valve 26 being arranged to allow air to es' cape from the tube 22 into the boot but preventl air escaping'vfrom the boot into the tube 22, being pressed upwardly to closed position by a spring28, while the valve 27 allows .airv to escapefromV the boot into the tube 23 but prevents contrary action.
The lower ends of the tubesl are open, tube 22` registering with the Vspace'between the insole 2l and main sole 11'., while tube` 23 communicates asindicated at 8O with the interior of thejboot at: a distance Aabove the heel. As will beHa-pparent, when the weight 'of therperson wearing the boot rests onthe insole 2l the studs 20 will be compressed, forcing the air thereunder f up around the sides of said insole, which are notched'as at 131, around the foot andout through the tube 23, while, when the vfoot Vis-.raised and the weight taken off the insole the studs 20'eXpand, and the-.air rushes from tube 22` into the space under the insole to be subsequently expelled as the` weight Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire'to lows' Y ..7 y y l. ln water proof boot, a main sole, an insole resiliently supported above said mainsole, and a pair of-tubes` leading downwardly through the wallY of the bootl and `communicating rcspectivelywith `the space .under said insole and the interior of the boot at a distance above theV insole, said tubesv having fone-way'A valves l"therein, operating oppositely for the respective tubes.. l c' 2.` In a waterproof boot, amain sole hav-` y protect by Let- 1 ters Patentvof the .United States is as fol-Y ing a series of rubber studs projecting u'p- 'n wardly therefrom'pan insole. supported on fsaid studs, a pair oftubes leadingdowns4 Vwardly.through `the wal-l of theboot and communicatingrespectively, with the spaceV f under said insole'andathe interior` of the fr boot ata distance above saidinsole, andop-y 'positely operating one-way valves infthe Vrespective tubes. i f' 3, In a water proof'boot, a main sole havu Q Y Y l 1,469,291
