Be it known thatl, MARY KATHERINEAD- coon, a citizen of'the United States, residing at Winchester, in the county of Clark and Stateof Kentucky, have inventednew .and useful Improvements-in Window At- A11 important'and more specific object is the provision of a shield of this character which is detachably connected with the sides I of a window casing and located below'the partly raised lower sash, the device being located inside of the room and having an inclined wall which will deflect upwardly air blowing through the opening and thus preventing draft, the device being adjustable to fit windows of different sizes.

An additional object is the provision of a device of this character which will be simple and inexpensive in manufacture, easy toinstall or remove, eflicient and durable in use and a general improvement in the art,

In carryingout my invention lprovide a ventilating device which may be constructed of sheet metal, wood, fiber or in fact any suitable material, painted, enameled or otherwise treated to present a pleasing appearance and to increase the durability. This ventilator shield consists of side members 10 and 10 which are triangular or wedge shaped and the former of which is formed upon a relatively large plate 11 turned fiange 11 designed to rest upon the wlndow sill :D. The member -10? is formed atone edge with-spaced flanges 10? which re ceive-the free end ofithe plate 11,]th'is ic0n; struction enabling the-device to be elongated which has 'its'lower edge formed With an inl or shortened whereby to fit windows of different sizes.

' It is of course necessary-to provide means for holding this structure inplace and to accomplish this Isecure, upon the end mem bers 10 and 10 upright springs 12 which, have-their upper and lower ends rolled as indicated at'l3 and which have theiriintermediate portions formed with rings or loops 14 which will provide resilience. The upper rear corners of the end memberslO and 10 are cut away'as indicated at15 so that the upper rolled ends 13 ofthespring members will extend beyond.

When it is desired to install the device, 7 the lower sash B is raised partly to permit the members 10 and 10 to be inserted ,be-

neath the lower edge thereof, the members 10 and 10 being pulled apartuntil'they engage against the confronting faces of the 7 window frame orlcasing. ,The sash is then pushed down until it engages firmly against,

the rolled upper ends 13 of, the springs 12. The inherent resilience of these springs V pressing against the silland the sash will operate to hold the device firmly in position.
