' LIFTING Application led May 17,

Be it known that I, Fousnnn J. TEBBS. a citizen of the i 4United States, residing at Cynthiana, in the county of Harrison and State of Kentucky7 have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lifting Devices, of which the following is a specification.
' This invention relates to lifting devices and is intended more particularly for use in transferring an invalid from abed to a chair or from o-ne bed to another bed or from a chair to a bed. The invention seeks to pro-V vide -a device which may be easily operated and will firmly support the patient while he is being transferred from a bed or a chair` to another resting place. p The inventionV is illustratedv in the accompanying drawings and will be hereinafter fully set forth.
In the drawings- Figure 1 is a perspective view of my im'- proved lifting device;
Fig. 2 is an enlarged transversesection on` the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
In carrying out my invention, I employ a stand comprising a base 1 and legs2supporting the same, the upper end 'of each leg being fitted in a recess 3 in the edge of the base and held therein bya pin or bolt 4. The legs are each 4constructed at its upper end with a tongue 5 fitting against the base of the rrespective recess 3 so that spreading of the legs, when the device is in use, will be prevented. At the same time, the bolts or pins 4 are readily removable so that the device may be stored away in a small compass when it is not in use. A. king bolt 6 is fitted vertically through the centerof the base 1, and secured upon the upper side of the base concentric with the king bolt is a supporting plate or disk 7 having an annular flange 8 at its edge to co-operate with and support a turning'plate 9 secured to the under side of a head or fulcrum block 10. The turning plate 9 is provided with a depending flange 11 which fits within the flange 8 so as to maintain the concentric relation of the ineinbers 7 and 9 and at tlie center of the turning plate 9 is-a depending hub 12 fitting loosely about the king bolt and also fitting loosely within the central opening 13 in the supportw ing plate 7. The plate 9,- moreover, rests upon the edge of the iiange 8 sothat it will be rinly supported but may be freely rotated. The head or fulcrum block 10 receives the upper end of the king bolt which tieten earner series.

is seatedin thebasegof a` slot or? notchl-i in the heathas clearly shown in Fig. 2, A
lever v15 isl pivotally supportedwithin the islot 1e by a pin orbolt lfinserted through .-f'
the head 10 and'through the lever, as clearly shown.
lever is a suspension hook- 17. A sling is employed consisting of straps 18 secured at their ends tor rings 19` and connected intermediate their ends lby bracing straps'20.
One end of this lever is free so as v to receive power and at the other end ofthe These straps niay beF of leather or anyk otherr sufficiently flexible and strongV material and should be of proper dimensions to comfort-v ably support the patient when passed beneath his 1cody. A strap 21 is doubled upon itself through the rings 19 and is inserted through a 'ring- 22 which is adapted to be engaged upon the suspension hook 17, the ends of the strap being fastened by abuckle or equivalent device23.
In the use of the device, the sling is passed under the patient and thev strap21 is then engaged through'th'e several rings and fasv tened, as will be readily understood. By applying power to the free'end of the lever 15, thesling with the patient therein will-be raised from the 1ned and ywhen the patient is clear of the bed the lever-may be nioved lat-V erally so that it and the head 1.0 willftiirn pivotallyjabout the'king holt 6 and bring the patient iiitoproper position to be lowered onto another bed 'or into a chair or other support. The ,device inay be readily set up for use and is light so that'it maybe easily moved from is needed. Y y Y `Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
1. A lifting device comprising a stand,
point to point as its use Y a circular disc secured on the iippcr'side of the stand and provided with an. annular iipstanding flange and having a central opening therethrough, a turning plate supportedon said annular flange, a depending flange on the said turning plate engaging within said annular flange, a huh on said turning plate engaging iii said opening, ahead attached to said turning plate and having spaced jaws extending upwardly from said head, a pivot pin carried hysaidjaws, a securing element connecting said'headY to said stand, a leversupported on said pivot pin between said jaws, and load-engaging means attached to one end of said lever.
2. A lifting device comprising `a stand,
a Circular dise secured en the upper side of the stand and provided with an annular upstanding flange and having a central opening herethrough, a turning plate supported en said annular flange, a depending flange on the said turning plate engaging within said annuar flange, a hub on said turning plate engaging in said Opening, a head al-aehed o said turning plate and having vspaced jaws extending upwardly from said head, a pivot pin carried by said jaws, a securing element Connecting said head te said stand, a lever supperuedon said pivot pin between said }aWs,'l0ad-engag1ng means attaehed ,ne end 'of sald lever, said stand including a base provided with pergendieu;
lai recesses at is edge, legs having 'tongues neUsHnEJ. Teens. [L a] tiglily in said recesses and contact--
