Description
N. G. EVESON Sept. 25, 1923. 1,468,901
INDICATING OR RECORDING DEVICE FARTICULARLY ADAPTED FOR USE BY GOLFERS Filed July 14. 1922 9 QIHAlS i Patented Sept. 25, 1923..
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
NOEL GEORGE EVESON, OF BIRMINGHAM, ENGLAND.
INDICATING OR RECORDING DEVICE PARTICULARLY ADAPTED FOR USE BY GOLFEBS.
Application filed Ju1y14, 1922. Serial No. 575,096.
To all whom it may concern p Be it known that I, NOEL GEORGE EVESON,
a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at 134 Edmund Street, Birmingham, in the county. of Warwick, England,
have invented a New or Improved Indicat ing or Recordin Device Particularly Adapted for Use by olfers, of which the follow ing is a specification.
The present invention has relation to a new or improved indicating or recording de- "ice particularly adapted for use by golfers.
The presentapparatus is adapted to record the number of strokes made by the player at each hole, and to this end a metal plate disc or other like member is provided with eighteen or other suitable number of elongated slots or series of perforations, each of which is provided with a stud or devices slidable or adjustable along such slots or series and adapted to be registered with one of a series of numerals, say, 1 to 10, provided adjacent each slot or series and auto matically retained in such registered position.
In order that this invention may be clearly understood and readily carried into practice. reference may be had to the appended explanatory sheet of drawings, upon which:
Figure 1 is a front elevation of a recording device according to the present invention.
Figure 2 is a section on line 22 of Figure 1. t
Figure 3 is a plan of the device shewn in Figures 1 and 2.
In a convenient embodiment of the present invention, a rectangular circular or other suitably shaped disc a of aluminium or 40 other metal has inscribed thereon the numerals 1 to 18 representing the 18 holes of the course. Opposite each numeral is an elongated slot 1) involving ten or other suitable number of diamond-shaped, oval or circular 45 apertures c which are united by narrow connection slots, thereby involving a number of tongues 65 of metal along one side of the slots 7). A stud is adapted to slide from one perforation to another and this stud involves an enlarged head 6 united with a corresponding base 7 by means of a narrow neck portion g. The base 7 may be attached to the neck portion 9 by riveting, screws, or other means, and said neck portion is conveniently of oval, flat or equivalent section adapted to be readily accommodated in the perforations. A small pin it is provided upon the base 7 for engagement within the aperture 0; a leaf spring 2' also being provided so that the stud is automatically retained in the perforation 0 with which it is engaged. To displace the stud from one position to another it is therefore only necessary to press the head 6 towards the plate, as a result of which the leaf spring 2' is flattened and the pin it withdrawn from the notch, when the stud can then be slid into register with a second notch; upon then releasing the head the pin h-takes within this second notch and so locks the stud in its new position. Opposite each perforation 0 is a numeral and in this manner the number of strokes at each hole is recorded. The elongated slots 7) may be disposed in parallel relation to one another and may be stamped out on a rectangular, square or equivalent disc, or said elongated slots may radiate from the centre of a circular disc. Each slot is provided with one stud and by recording the number of strokes at each hole, the total for the round can be readily ascertained. The present apparatus can be readily carried in the pocket by the player and occupies little or no more space than an ordinary score card.
If desired, perforations in each series may be separated from one another, and the stud may be separate from the apparatus and be adapted for attachment to any aperture by suitable engaging and retaining means.
lVhat I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A recording device of the class described comprising a plate having a slot and a series of spaced notches opening into one side of the slot, and a stud having a neck movable in said slot, a head and a base at the ends of the neck and on opposite sides of the plate, a spring bearing between the plate and the head, and a. pin projecting from the base engageable with any of the notches, and held in engaged position, by the tension of the spring, to prevent casual movement of the stud.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set 11 a. my an NOEL GEORGE EVESON.
