PRAYER-BEAD DEVICE.

Application filed April 30, 19277. Serial No. 187,932.

This invention relates to eert-ain new and useful improvements in prayer bead devices, and the primary object thereof is to provide a device of this character which indicates the saying of a certain series of prayers. More specifically, the invention aims to provide a device of this kind wherein ten beads are used to indicate a certain set ot prayers, which set is to be said five times.

A further object ot' 'the invention is to provide a device of this kind which can be conveniently held in the hand of the worshiper and which can be easily and quickly operated.

The invention still further aims to provide a device of this kind which is of simple and economical construction and wherein the indicating means, while capable of easy and quick movement from one position to another, is eifectually held in either of Suc'h positions.

A still further object of the invention is to provide a device of this kind which is compact and which is of attractive appearance.

In proceeding in accordance with the present invention, a body 1, preferably composed of a thin metal plate, is provided, with

2 and 3 and similar integral side lugs 4 and 5. The plate at one end is cut away to provide a beveled edge 6 and is further cut away to provide a straight edge 7 which merges into the edge 6. A wire 8 is disposed about the entire periphery or marginal edge of the plate and the

2, 3, 4 and 5 are bent about the wire to secure same to the plate. As shown in Fig. 1, the wire is held in spaced relation to the edges 6 and 7. The sides of the plate are further formed with cut-outs 9 and 10 to receive beads 11 and 12 therein, the beads being strung on the wire. A similar cut-out 13 is formed in the rear end of the plate to receive a bead 14. The beads 11 and 12 are used to indicate certain kinds of prayers and a

14, 15 and 16 are used to indicate another kind of prayer. It will be noted that the beads 12 are ten in number and are employed to indicate a certain set of prayers, which set is to be said a certain number of times, and in the present instance live times. Accordingly, four beads 16 are strung on the wire and are frictionally engaged with the edges 6 and 7. It will be noted that the junetural point 1S between the edges 6 and 7 provides a somewhat sharp projection, over which it is necessary to torce the beads 16, the point 18 acting to prevent accidental movement of the beads therepast.

From inspection of Fig. 1 it will be noted that the device may be held in the four lingers or in the palm of the hand by engagement with the beads 12 and with the beads 16 engaged with the thumb. The

beads 16 are initially in the full line position of Fig. 1 and as the set ot prayers represented by the beads is said the worshiper initially starts the prayers by the prayer represented by t-he bead 15 then the prayer represented by the beads 11, then the prayer represented by the bead 14, then the prayers represented by the beads 12, then the same prayer represented by the beads lat, 15 and moves one of the beads 16 into the dotted prayers until all four of the beads 16 are in the dotted line position of Figure 1, when the complete prayer has been said.

Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is r- 1. In a prayer device, a plate having a series of cut-outs along its side edges and having cut away portions forming a straight edge and a bevelled edge which latter merges into a straight edge, said plate having a series of integral lugs, a wire disposed about the marginal edges of the plate, the lugs being bent to embrace` the wire and hold the same in position, beads strung on the wire 9 and arranged in the eut-outs, and a series of movable beads strung on the wire and arranged to be moved from the straight edge to the beveled edge and vice versa, the junctural point between the straight edge and the beveled edge being' formed so as to engage the beads and require forcible movement thereof past said point.

2. In a prayer device, a plate having a series of cut-outs along one side thereof and having a cut-away part forming an inclined and a straight edge on its opposite side, wire means disposed along, said sides of the plate, means to hold the wire means, in position, beads strung on the Wire and arranged in the position then repeats each set of 1.

3. In a prayer device, a body having a set of prayer indicating means `aflongone side thereof and having its opposite side formed with a straight and an inclined edge, a series of indicators movable from the inclined to the straight edge and vice versa to indicate the number of times the prayer has been said, and means vto slidably mount the indilators, the `iunctural point between the straight and the inclined edge being formed to require the indicators to be forcibly moved therepast.

4. In a prayer device, a body having relatively iixed indicating means to designate a certain series of prayers, said body having a straight edge andan inclined edge merg V:ing indicating means to indicate ing tliereinto, and a series of movable indicating means slidable from the inclined to the straight edge and vice versa to indicate thenumber of time the series of prayers have been said.

5. A prayer device,I including a body hava set of prayers, and having movable indicators to indicate the Anumber of times the set of prayers has been said, said body having a straight and an inclined edge which merge and having a. junCt-ural point which requires forcible movement of the indicators to move same from the inclined to the straight edge and vice versa.
