SMOKING PIPE.
Application filed November 6, 1919. Serial Ito. 336,022.
To all whom it may comem:
Be it known that I, ALBERT, G. Bnoms'rnn, a citizen of the United States, and a resident or. San Diego, in the county of San Diego and State of California, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Smoking Pipes, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to improvements in pipes for smoking tobacco and it consists in the combinations, constructions, and anrangements herein described and claimed.
An object of my invention is to rovide a pipe which has means for causing the smoke to pass a circuitous path before reaching the mouth of the smoker, thereby cooling the smoke and permitting a deposit of nicotine.
A further object of my invention is to provide a pipe having means for preventing the saliva from entering the dues or passages in which the smoke is compelled to ass. P A further object of my invention is to provide a pipe, made in sections so that it maybe readily taken apart and cleaned. e
Other objects and advantages will appear in the following specification and the novel features of the invention will be particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, forming part of this application in wh1ch- Figure 1 is a section along the line 1-1 of Fig. 5,
Figure 2 of Fig. 1,
Figure 3 is a section along the line of F 1g. 1,
Figure l is a section along the line ie-d Of 1, l
Figure is a section along the line 5-5 of Fig.1.
in carrying out my invention, 1 provide a bowl 1 of the shape shown in the dire ings. This bowl has a passage 2 and is provided with a threaded portion 3.
The central stem 4 is provided with a series of longitudinally extending passages 5. One of these passages communicates at its end with the passage 2. Certain of the other passages 5 are connected at their forward ends by 'means of recesses 6 in the body portion, as shown in Fig. 1. The stem 4; is threaded at 7, being secured to the threaded portion 3 of the body by means of is a section along the line 2-- 2 a threaded sleeve 8. Arranged to abut the rear end of the stem is a disk 9, which has recesses 10 joining ends of certain of the passages '5. It also has an opening 11, which communicates with a cup-shaped chamber 13. A partition 14 is provided in the chamher 13 and the latter is in communication by means of an opening 12 and a passage 15 with a short tube 16, which terminates in various parts of the device, the operation thereof may be readily understood. en the smoke is drawn from the bowl, it passes through the passage 2 and thence backwardly and forwardly along the longitudinal passages 5, during which time the smoke is collected and the nicotine is deposited. lit emerges from the opening '11 into the cham- 7 her 13, passes underneath the partition 14:, and thence through the opening 12 and along the passage 15, the tube 16, and out the passage 19. Any saliva which enters the passage 19 is caught in the saliva chamber 17. Any moisture which may be condensed is caught in the chamber 13. 7
My improved pipe provides a cool, smoke under all circumstances. It is easily taken apart and cleaned and may be readily assembled. l
l claim: 1
1. A smoking pipe having a'bowl, a stem secured to the bowl and having a series of passages for compelling the smoke to travel backwardly and forwardly through the stem, and a mouthpiece connected with the, stem and having a saliva chamber for preventing the entrance of saliva into the longitudinal passages.
2. at smoking pipe comprising a bowl, a stem communicating with the bowl at one end, said stem having a plurality of longitudinal passages, connections at the ends of said passages for causin the smoke to pass back and forth-throng said passages, a chamber connecting with the end or one of said passages, said chamber having a partition, and a mouthpiece having a i saliva chamber and means for establishing communication between said saliva chamber and said first named chamber.
3. A smoking pipe comprising a bowl, a
a stem secured to said bowl, a mouth piece in causing the smoke to pass back and forth through said passages, a chamber, said Leeama chamber having a vertical partition extending from the top thereof to a spaced distance from the bottom, wherebysaid chamher is divided into two communicating compartments, said stem having one of its passages communicating with the upper portion of one compartment and said mouth piece having its passage in communication with the upper portion of the other compartment.
