ROOT E. KIMBIALL, FORT "WAYNE, INDIANA.
COMBINATIQN irrronnn' nonun on-E.
Application filed September-29, 1922." Serial No. 591,227. I
I To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Roor E. I IIvIBALL, a citizen of the 'United States, residing at Fort Wayne, in the county of Allen and State of Indiana, have invented new and useful Improvements in Combination Kitchen Furniture, of which the following is a specification.
Incarrying out the present invention it is my purpose to provide a combination article of furniture for kitchen use which may be converted into a table or cabinet I bility and which will embody comparatively few oats, and these so arranged and corelated as to reduce the possibility of derangement to a minimum.
With the above recited objects in view, and others of a similar nature, the invention resides in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts set forth in and falling within the scope of the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is a top view of'my combination article of furniture folded up;
Figure 2 is an end View of the same.
Figure 3 is a plan view showing the article of furniture in cabinet formation.
Figure 4 is an end view showing the article as set up for a table.
Figure 5 is a sectional view on the line 5-5 of Figure 3.
Figure 6 is a sectional view on the line 6-6 of Figure 3.
Figure 7 is a sectional view on the line 77 of Figure 3.
Figure 8 is a view in elevation of a cabinet that may be carried within my improved When arranged in confronting relationthe open sides of the sections l-l lie contiguous to each other,- and these sections at one side are hinged together at their meeting. edges by hinges 2. Thus, the sections 1--l may be opened and closed after the fashion of a suitcase.
In the present instance, each section 1 adjacent to the wall that forms the top when the sectionsare in closed position, is provided with a longitudinally extending partition 3 that is spaced apart a short distance from the top forming wall, as clearly illustrated in Figures 3 and 5 of the drawings, in order to provide a chamber 4.
I-Iingedly connected to the inner surface of the wall of each chamber opposite to the open side of the section are legs 55. These legs are arranged end to end in the chamber, clearly shown in Figure 5, and the outer ends thereof are connected by the hinges 6 to said wall of the chamber, so that the. legs when not in use may be folded into the chamber and may be swung out of the chamber when it is desired to use my combination article of furniture as a table. Hingedly connected, as at 7, to the free edge of each partition 3 is a strip 8 that is adapted to close the open end of the chamber and this strip 8 is equipped with bolts 9 that are slidable into mortises 10 formed in the inner surface of the adjacent wall of each section 1. These bolts and mortises act to hold the strip 8 in closed position, so that the legs 5 will be confined within the respective chambers when not in use.
One section 1 is equipped interiorly with transverse shelves 11, as shown by dotted lines in Figure 6 of the drawings, and the open side of the shelved section is closed by a cover board 12, the marginal edges of 'which rest within a rabbet 13.
The other section 1 is equipped interiorly with asmall cabinet 14 shown in Figures 8 and 9 of the drawings. This cabinet 14: is divided into two compartments l5 and 16, and one compartment may be used for ice, while the other compartment may be used to store vegetables. This cabinet 14 is in the nature of a miniature refrigerator and the vegetable compartment thereof is equippcd with transverse shelves 17, as shown by dotted lines in Figure 9.
When the sections 1-1 are folded in suitcase formation, the top and end walls thereof are equipped with locking devices 18 that act to hold the sections in fold condition, thereby permitting the folded article to be carried about conveniently from place to place and tobe stored away in a small space, if desired.
' this position the strips 8 are openedfsoas to permit the legsto assume -verticalposi 20.tions in. order to support the tableftopf 1 "the like.
7 To use my improved article'of furniture as a cabinet, the'sections 1-1 are swung to open position and set up as shown in Figure 3 of the drawings, andthe cabinet 141emoved from the section 1 that carries -it.-
The other section l equipped withthe shelves 11' maybe used for holdingdishes, pans and To use myiimproved article offal-minim asaltable, the sameis placed in theposition shown in Figure k ot the drawings, andin 1 formed by the sections 1-1 clearly shown ring of the said embodiment.

of parts embraced in the present andpreto impartiajfull, clearand exactunderstand- I donot desire, however, to be understood as confining myself to the specific construction and rela-' tive arrangement of parts, inasmuch as in V the'present practice of the invention various changes and modifications may be made suchas fall ithin the scope of my invention as defined by my appended claims.
