Vsupports of the above character which are fr extensible and adapted for any width of grave. v Y Y Y It is Aalso an object of'V the invention that the supports be each `adapted: to be closed intoa compactunit for transportation or storage.
A further object of the invention is that Vthe supports be so shaped that they will not have a tendency to roll'when supporting a casket.
rFhe invention g is illustrated byl way o-f example in the accompanying drawings,"in which: t
Figure 1 is a detail perspective View showing a casket of an infants size being supported from a graveV by supports which comprise the subject Vof the present invention,`
"Figure 2 is a side elevation of one of thesupports when extended, the sameV being partly shown in crosssection to more clearly illustrate the invention,
Figure 3 is a side elevation of one'of the supports when shortened to its shortest length, and also being partly shown in cross .section similar to Figure 2,
Figure et is a transverse section taken substantially on the lines 41-4 of Figure 3,
Figure 5 isa modified form ofthe invention, y
Figure 6 is a view illustrating the use of the supports for carrying a. casket to the grave,
.Figure 7 is a view illustrating an adults size casket when supported from a grave.
Referring to the drawings in detail, and particularly to Figures 1 to et inclusive, 10 indicates a casket of an infants size which Yis being supported over the grave therefor as shown, by the means of a pair of supports generally indicated at 11, said supports resting upon the planks 12 as likewise shown.
The pair of supports 11 constitute the present invention, and since one is a duplicate of the1 other, only one will be described in detai Briefly, each support comprises a middle pipe'section 13, the two intermediate pipe sections 14, which telescope the ends of the "pipe section 413, andthe two end pipe sections 15 which likewise telescope the outer end of the pipe sections 111. The outer surface of the pipe sections 15 are preferably hexagonal in shape as shown.
The middle section 13 carries at its one end a removable collar 16, said collar being secured in position by the set Vscrew 17, Figure 3. The other end of the pipe 13 is likewise provided with a collar which is preferably formed therewith as indicated at 16. Also the outer end of each :intermediate pipe section 14 has formed therewith a collar 18 which is adapted to slidingly fit within the outer sections 15. The inner end of' each outer pipe section 15 and intermediate pipe section 14 has its passage restricted as at 19,
the purpose of these restrictions being to form a stop for the collars carried on the ends of the intermediate pipe sections and the middle pipe section, and limit the ex# tensible movement of the support as a whole. Also the-se passage restrictions form a bearing for the pipe passing therethrough and cooperate with the collars on the outer ends of the pipes before mentioned, to form arigid sup-porting structure. Also: the outer end of each pipe section 15 is reduced as at 21, and said reduced portion formed with a thread to accommodate the cap 22.
Referring to Figure 6, the supports 11 are shown as being utilized for carrying the casket 23. This casket is of the adult size and the grave of a corresponding size. The supports have been extended and aord a y convenientmeans for the pallbearers to support the casket and place the same over the grave. The pallbearers may grasp the reduced portion 21 and cap 22, as shown, and
due to the extension of the supports from the sides of the casket the pallbearers are permitted to wall: on eachV side of the grave in an erect manner and without approaching the edges of the grave too closely.
Referring to Figure 7, an adults size casket is shown similar to that shown in Figure 6, and supported by the supports 11, over a grave as likewise shown. The supports have been extended to accommodate tlc.
the casket and the outer pipe sections 15 rest upon'- the framework about the grave. These pipe sections lhaving an outer surface hexagonal in shape prevent any rolling` of the supports upon the Vframework about the grave, and thus eliminate any danger in that respect.
'Referring to Figure 5, the telescopic pipe sections 13, 111 and 15 constituting the ei:- tensible support are triangular in shape, as shown. 's The outer sections 15 are also formed with a reduced portion over `which there Vmay be positioned a triangular shapedV cap andsecured inposition-by theineans ot a screw, as shown.
