Description

UNrrED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
HENRY IVATSON, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
llViPROVENiENT IN BOTTLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 146,791, dated January 27, 1874; application filed October 7, 1873.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HENRY W. Wn'rsoN, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented an Improved Dreg-Bottle; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings making part of this specification- Figure 1 being a central Vertical section of the dreg-bottle; Fig. 2, a top viewof the saine; Fig. 3, a horizontal section of the base thereof in a plane indicated by the line x x, Fig. 1.
Like letters designate corresponding parts in all of the figures.
The nature of my invention consists in a d reg-chamber or enlargement of peculiar sh ape in the bottom of the bottle, With a narrow part immediately above the same, and in combination therewith of a spout or deeanting-duct at the mouth of the bottle, arranged substantially as and for the purpose hereinafter specified.
Let A represent a bottle or vial of suitable i'orln for the purpose, though no particular shape is essential. At the bottom ot the bottle there is a more er less abrupt enlargement, n, inside, it being only in one side of the bottle,
. while the other side bis solid in order that the dregs which collect in this enlargement or chamber may be retained therein as the-bottle is tilted for pouring out the liquid therefrom. The solid part b is to be upward in pouring out from the bottle, and prevents the descent of dregs from the upper side in the act of tilting, and
the ascent of air bubbles therefrom, which would roil the liquid. This solid part, When the bottle is made 'of glass, is formed either by compressing the base at that side, as indicated in the drawings, or by the runningin of an extra quantity of glass to fill the inside. In connection with this formation of an enlarged chamber in one side of the base, in order to insure the tilting of the bottle always in the right direction, to have the solid sideb npward, I form a spout or duct,d, at the mouth of the bottle, on `the same side of the same as the enlarged chamber a of the base, so that by pouring out the liquid in that direction the object is ei'ected.
I claim as novel only this arrangement of the spout or duetin relation to the enlargement a in one side of the base, and in combination therewith.
That I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
rlhe dreg collecting and retaining enlargement or chamber a in `one side of the bottle, the other side, b, being solid or Without abrupt enlargement, substantially as and for the purpose herein specified.
Specification signed by me this 30th day of September, 1873.
HENRY W. VATSON.
'itnesses J. S. BROWN, EDM. F. BROWN.
