Description

UNITED STATES ABEL DAVIS, OFNEW PORTLAND, MAINE.
IMPROVEMENT IN HARNESS-HAMES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 146,754, dated January 27, 1874 application filed January 9, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ABEL DAVIS, of New Portland, in the county of Somerset and in the State of Maine, have invented certain Improvement in the Adjustment of Hames to Harness; and do hereby declare that the following is a full,'clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing making apart of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of my im- .proved device as employed for combining a hame and trace, and Fig. 2 is a crosssection of the same upon line .90 .10 of Fig. 1.
Letters of like name and kind refer to like parts in each of the figures.
The design of my invention is to enable a trace to be connected with a hame in a strong and durable manner, and such point of connection to be varied vertically as occasion may require; and it consists in the means employed for connecting; the trace-clip to or with .ing, cl, that corresponds to and embraces one of the studs (1, while a similar opening, at,
. toward the outer end of said plate, permits a fastening-screw, E, to be passed inward through said plate, with the head of said screw resting upon the outer side of the same, and its threadouter end of the plate D for the reception of l the trace-clip G, completes the device, the op- I eration of which is as follows: When secured in position, the connecting-plate D performs its oflice in the usual manner, and, from its pe-,
culiar construction and attachment, has more than ordinary strength. to have the point of attachment for the trace higher or lower, the screw E is removed, said plate removed from engagement with its stud and placed over the stud above or below, after which the replacement of said screw effectually locks said plate in position once more, such change of adjustment being easily and quickly made.
Having thus fully set forth the nature and merits of my invention, what I claim as new In combination with the hame A, provided with the plate B, studs G G, and plate F f, the plates D, d, d, d, and d, and the clampingscrew E, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 27th day of December, 1873.
ABEL DAVIS. '11..
