Be it known that I, JosnPH H. JoNns, a citizen of thel United States, residing at lVinthrop, in the county ofSulfolk, Stateof Massachusetts, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Cap-Spinning Frames, of which the following is a specilication, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
The invention relates to cap-spinning devices of the class in which a cap revolves substantially in unision with an associated spinning element (Spindle or bobbin) upon which it is mounted. More Specifically, it relates to the so-called pivots, i. e., cap-controlling wheels, which are employed in conjunction with the revolving caps and control the positions of the latter vertically during operation.
The invention provides a sol-called pivot (cap-controlling wheel) having a cap-engaging annulus of Suitable frictional material, such for instance as rubber, and also comprising annuluS-holding members so contrived and engaged with the said annulus as to prevent the annulus from expanding at high Speeds of revolution so as to loosen upon the body of the pivot or throw out in a loop therefrom.
An illustrative embodiment of the invention is shown in the drawings, in which latter,-

At 9,is alquill or bobbin mounted upon the 'spindle blade. At 10 is a'revolving cap V'Such as'afore- Said, cooperating withfthe said quill 4or bobbin9. At 11, Figs. 1, 2 and 3, is a pivot or cap-controlling wheel co-acting with the. cap 10; at 12 is a mounting for the pivot or cap-controlling wheel;v and at 13 is ya supporting rail for the mounting 12.
In the case of devices of thef'general character shown in Fig. 1, the head of the cap 10 has a central hole to accommodate the blade or barrel of the spinning element, in this instance therbobbin 9, with which'the capv is combined in operation. The said cen-- tral hole is proportioned so that the head of the cap has a close but vsliding fit upon the said blade or barrel. Such fit, while sufficiently close to permit the cap to be rotated through the engagement with such blade or barrel, nevertheless permits the cap to have vertical movement upon the bladeor barrel. The cap gravitates downward until it is supalsV ported through its flaring periphery resting upon the cap-contacting peripheral portion of the pivot or cap-controlling wheel A11, as in Fig. 1. The said sliding fitalso permits the traverse movements ofthe cap relative' to the-blade or barrel which are required to take place for the distribution of the twisted yarn. upon the blade .or barrel in being wound upon the latter. These traversing movements are due in practice to movements of rail 13 relative to rail 5, or vice versa.
Referring now to the improved construction of pivot crean-controlling wheel,-
At (Z is the annulus or ring of frictional material for engagement with the periphery of a cap. It surrounds the body ofthe pivot 11, as shown best in Fig. 3. In accordance with the invention, the Said annulus orl ring, the flange e with which the said body is furnished for the support of the annulus or ring d from below, and the securing ring f screwing upon the body and engaging with the upper side or' the annulus or ring to clamp the annulus or ring in place, are constructed to provide for vertically overlapping engagement between the annulus or ring and the said iange and securing ring. In the present instance, the annulus or ring Z is formed with upper and lower vertically projecting annular fins or ribs g, g, Figs. 4L and 5, and the flange e and cap f have lormed therein annular grooves 7i and fi, Figs. 3, 6, and 7, which are occupied by the said annular fins or ribs when the parts are in assembled relations, as in Fig` lt will be perceived that this conetructicn and inode et interengagement in the case of the annulus or ring l and the parts between which it is held on the pivot will be effective to prevent the annulus or loop from expanding and bowing out' in loop form from the body of the pivot at any speed of rotation of the cap and pivot.
The invention is not restricted to'embodiment in the particular specific form, etc., shown in thel drawings.
What is claimed as the invention is,
l. The improved pivot or cap-controlling wheel provided with a cap-engaging annulus of frictional material, and with annulus holding devices clamping said annulus between them, said `annulus and holding devices constructed for vertically overlapping engagement between the annulus and the holding means, whereby expansion and looping-out of the annulus under centrifugal action are prevented.
2. The improved pivot or cap-controlling wheel comprising the body having a grooved flange e, a grooved cap-ring f, and an annulus or ring cl of frictional material formed with projecting rims or ribs occupying said grooves, whereby the annulus or ring is prevented rom expanding and bowing out into a loop at high speed.
