- LEVER ADJUSTMENT.

To all whom it may concern: I
Be it known that I, ANTON KLEE, Jr., a citizen of the United States, residing at Fountain City, in the county of Buffalo and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lever Adjustments, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to improvements in levers and more particularly to lever adjustments with respect to a'quad rant.
The principal object of the invention is to provide for a finer adjustment of the lever with respect to the quadrant and, incidentally, a finer adjustment of the mechanism controlled by the lever.
Various other objects and advantages of my invention will become apparent during the continuance of the following description.

Figure 1 is a view in front elevation showing my invention as in its preferred embodiment, the lever being associated with a quadrant of substantially conventional form.
Figure 2 is a view in detail of one of the two pawls used in connection with the invention.

Referring particularly to Figure 1 of the drawing 10 indicates a hand lever pivotedly mounted as at 11 adjacent a quadrant 12 having the usual gear teeth 13 on its upper or operating face.
Above the quadrant 12 the lever 10 is provided with s aced right-angular projections 14 and 15 w ich, it is pointed out, may be formed on a head 16 and secured to the lever 10 by such means as shown at 17. The projections 14 and 15 are provided with aligned openings 18 and 19 for the purpose that will presently appear, while the lower projection 15 carries 2. depending guard 20 that overlies the teeth 13 of the quadrant as shown in Figure 1.
- Latch members 21 and 22 operate through the ope nings 18 and 19 respectively of the pro ections 14 and 15, their lower ends being adapted to seat in the notches between the teeth 13 of the quadrant 12 at certain times in order to maintain the lever 10 sta tionary with respect to the quadrant. It is also pointed out that by reason of the close proximity of the latch members, whefnone seats within a notch between the teeth-l3 the other will be inoperative, that is, with out the plane of the notches between the teeth.
At their upper end the latch members are provided with inwardly projecting brackets 23 and 24 whose inner ends overlap each other and are provided with bearing openings 25. A lifting rod 26 is associated with the lever 10 and adapted to be raised by the hand lever 27 and passes through the bearing openings of the brackets 24 as clearly shown in Figure 1. Spaced offset portions 28 and 29 are arranged on the lifting rod 26 near the lower end thereof, the offset portion .28 being immediately beneath the bracket 24 when the latch 22 engages between the teeth 13 of the quadrant as in Figure 1 while the offset portion 29 lies in spaced relation to the latch 21 when the same is in the position as shown in Figure 1. However, it is pointed out that if the position of the latch members was reversed, that is, if latch 21 was engaged between the teeth 13 and the latch 22 was out of engagement therewith, the offset portion 29 would be directly beneath and in close proximity to the bracket 23 while the offset portion 28 would support the latch 22 in its inoperative position.
Assuming that the parts were in the position shown in Figure 1, when the rod 26 is raised it will move the lower end of latch 22 from its position between the teeth 13 of the quadrant and by moving the lever 10 either forwardly or backwardly a distance equal to the width of the adjacent tooth 13 the lower end of latch 21 will seat having separate i ar said ide for individual sliding movement therein, said latch members relatively! overlapping at adjacent ends, and a lifting mem-- ber movable thru said overlapping ends and abutments with each for moving the said latch members alternately.
2. A lever attachment including a guide, spring-pressed latch members having individual sliding movement in the guide, said latch members relatively overlapping at adjacent ends to provide bearing brackets, and a lifting member slidable thru said brackets and having ofisets engageable with the brackets for moving the latch members alternately.
3. A lever attachment including a guide, spring-pressed latch members having individual sliding movement in the guide, said. members being disposed in relatively spaced, parallel relation and having corresponding ends overlapping to provide bearing brackets having aligned openings, and a suitable lifting rod extended thru said aligned open in and having an ofi'set below each bracket, said oflset being relatively spaced to permit a limited range of movement to the bracket confined'therebetween.
4. A lever attachment including a supporting plate having guides, sprin pressed latch members having individua sliding movement thru said guides, each of said members having a lateral projection proaeaese vided with a bearing opening therein, and a lifting member slidable thru the said hearing openings and offset below each projection for abutment with the latter when moved counter thereto, said ofisets being relatively arranged to abut alternately with the said projections for moving the said latch members alternately.
5. A device of the character described, includin a fixed toothed quadrant, a lever pivota 1y mounted with respect to the quadrant, spaced angular projections on said lever, said projections being provided with aligned openings independent latch members slidably mounted in said openings with their lower ends engageable with said quadrant, means to yieldingly urge said members into engagement with said quadrant, brackets at the upper end of said members having inwardly projecting portions overlapping each other, and a lifting rod slidable thru said overlapping portions and ofiset to separately abut with each when moved counter thereto for raising the said latch members alternately.
