einem NURSING BOTTLE.
Application led October 21, 1921. Serial No. 509,402.
To all whom t may concern.' Be it known that I, ALONZO L. MoeLEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Soquel, in the county of Santa Cruz and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Nursing Bottle; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exactpdescription of the invention, such as will enable Yothers skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
Nursing bottles are generally made o glass and are formed with angular portions within and without and asa consequence they are fragile, diiicult to clean and frequently injure the infant'.
The present invention provides an indestructible bottle which may be easily cleaned and is not liable to injure the infant be 2e cause it is free from corners and angular portions. v
The invention also provides a nursing bottle which is readily accessible for cleaning, which permits of the use of either the breast nipple or the ordinary nipple as desired. l
Other objects and advantages will be apparent and suggest themselves as the nature of the invention is understood.
ment of the invention it is to be understood that in adapting the sameyto meet dierent conditions and requirements various changes in the form, proportion and minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the nature of the invention'.
Referring to the accompanying drawing forming a part of the specification,
Figure 1 is an elevation of a nursing bottle embodying the invention showing the same adapted for receiving the usual small nipple. Y
Figure 2 is a sectional detail, the lower portion of the bottle being omitted, and
Figure 3 is a detail view showing the bottle adapted for use in connection with the breast nipple. v
Corresponding and like parts arereferred to in the following description and designated in the several views of the drawing by like reference characters.
A nursing bottle constructed in accordance with my invention is practically indestructible and free from corners or angular projecting parts and is of sectional formation to admit of either type of nipple being lVhile the drawing illustrates an embodi-A used` therewith as indicated most clearly Figures 1 and 3 of the accompanying drawing. 4While any material that will withstand hard usage and heat and coldmay be empioyed, it isl preferred to construct the bottle ofalu-minum which is light'and not l affected by liquid contentsand .capable of withstanding hard usage and sudden changes in temperature. The bottleV is of sectional formation and comprises a body portion 1 and a neck portion 2. The parts 1 and 2 are preferably connected bymeans ofv a'screw threadjoint which has inner and outer abutting shoulders toprevent leakage. 'llhe juncture of the side walls with the bot-V tom isrounding as indicated at 3 and "4 thereby obviating inner angular cornersv and outer angular projections with the-result that .the bottle may be readily cleaned and is not liableto injure the infant. The
body is provided atits mouth with an outer y beam 5 for reinforcing and strengthening purposes and also to provide for positivev engagement of the breast nipple 6 as indicated in Figure 3. The body 1 is threaded for a short distance upon its interior as indicated at 7 and makesscrew thread engagement with the neck portion 2. The inner threaded portion 7 is located adjacent the mouth of the body 1 and the latter is stiffened upon its inner wall as indicated at 8 to further reinforce and strengthen the bottle as well as to provide an inner shoulder 9 to abut the threaded end of the part 2. The inner lower portion of the stiffened part 8 vanishes into the inner wall of the body l to prevent the formation of any projecting part which would tend to collect matter and render it diiiicult to clean the bottle.
The neck portion 2 is made tapering and has an outer bead 10 at its smaller end to provide a inish to reinforce and strengthenk the mouth of the part 2 and to provide positive means for attachment of the ordinary small nipple 11 as indicated in Figure 1. The coupling end of the part 2 is externally threaded as indicated at k12 to make screw thread engagement with the part 7 of theA body 1. YThe threaded portion 12 is reduced leaving an outer shoulder V13 which is adapted to abut the extremity of the body 1. Vhen the part 2 is coupled to the part 1 the outer shoulder 13 is in' contact with the outer end of the part 1 and the inner shoulder 9 of the part 1 is in contact with the extremity of the part 2. These abutting joints at the ends of the threaded portion insure a tight joint and prevent leakage.
lhen it isrequired to use the ordinary small nipple 1l the part A2 is coupled to the part l but when it is desired to use the breast nipple 6 the part 2 is disconnected from the part l and the latter has the breast nipple iitted thereto as indicated in Figure 3. The sectional formation ot the bottle admits ofthe same being readilycleaned as will "be readily understood. The outer surfaces of the parts l and 2 adjacent the joints are milled, chased or otherwise roughened as indicated most clearly in Figure l to enable a firm grip to be obtained thereon when'screwingf or unscrewing the parts.
Having 'thus described the invention, what I claim is Al nursing,rv bottle comprising` body and neck portions.y the body portion having lthe juncture ot its side and -bottom wallscurved both, internally and externally, internal screw threads adjacent the open end of the bodjT portion7 a shoulder within the body vat the inner end ot said screw threads, external threaded to the body, the neck and bodyV ortions oit the bottle each having` a nipple securing rbead at their outer end7 the outer end ot the neck portion beingl of .much less diameter than the body portion whereby either a breast nipple or .an ordinary nipple may be used, and the neck and body portions being` serrated adjacent their point ,ot connection.
In testimony whereof I aix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
