To all whom t 'may concern.'
Be it known that I, GILBERT W. Goon- RIDGE, a citizen of the Unitedl States of America, residing at Bridgeport, in the county of Fairfield and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adapters, of which the following is a, specification.
My invention relates to adapters and particularlyv to an adapter by which an Edison receptacle may be converted into an Edif' Swan receptacle, the object of my invention being to provide a simple and economical device for accomplishin this'purpose.

In the constructionshown in Fig. 1, the adapter comprises an, insulating body 10 havmg at its entering end a projecting nose 11 and adjacent its outer end a flange 12.`
Surrounding the body piece 10 is a screw shell 13, the flange 14 of which overlies the ledge 15 from which the nose piece 11 rojects. The opposite end of the screw s ell 13 is spun into an annular roove 16 adjacent the flange 12, thus ho ding the screw shell rigidly in position on the body 10 and preventing its endwise escape therefrom. A screw bolt 17, passing through the flange 14 and a hole in the body 1() of the receptacle, engages the tap ed end 18 of the socket 19 in which worrs the plunger contact 2O forming one of the Edi-Swan spring terminals. On the nose 11 is mounted a center contact plate 21 held in position by .a screw bolt 22 which pierces the insulating body 10 and threads into a tapped hole in the angle strap 23. To the other end 'of the v but-ton having a boss projectmg from the enstrap 23 is secured the socket 24 for the other spring plunger contact 25. The two sockets 19 and 24 are located inra well 26 formed in the outer end of the insulating bayonet slots 28 is secured on the outer end of the body by crimping one end thereof into a channel 29- adjacent the flan e 12, and is held against rotation by o setting the shell inward at 30 and 31 into recesses 32 and 33 formed in the sides of the bodyV 10. This shell is preferably threaded at 34 to receive a tapped ring 35, by means of which v.a shade or shade holder may be gripped between the ring and the flange 12 or the body of the receptacle in which the adapter is inserted.
j In Figs. 3 and 4 I have shown a modified construction in which the insulating body comprises a button 36 carrying the adapter contacts 37 and 38 and the center contact 39 ofthe plug member of the adapter. The screw shel contact 40 of the ada ter has a.

Both shell 44 and collar 46 are notchedat 47, 48, respectively, to engage a lug 49. formed on the button 36 so as to hold these parts against relative rotation. In order to secure the several parts together, it is necessary merely to screw the threaded end 45 with its insulating collar 46 into the screw shell 40. lVhen screwed fully home, the shoulder 42 of ythe button 36 is halted b the flange 41 of the screw shell/10, whic is now in engagement with the plate 43, thus establishing electrical connect1on .with the adapter contact 38.
Various mc difications in detail of construction will readily occur to those skilled in the artwhich do not depart from what I claim as my invention.
I claim 1. An adapter comprisin an insulating A tering end thereof, a center contact on said boss, a connecting strap seated in the opposite end of said button, an axial connecting member engaging said center contact and strap to hold the same assembled' on said button and to establish electrical connection therebetween, a contact stud mounted on said strap and arranged out of alinement with said connecting member, to ether with a screw shell surrounding said having a Harige overlying the entering end of the button Faround said boss, a Contact stud arranged on the opposite end of said button, and a connecting member passing through the button and serving to mechanically and electrically connect ysaid screw shell and stud and to secure the same upon said button, substantialb7 as described.
2. An adapter comprising an insulating button having a stud at its entering end, a peripheral Hangeadjacent the portion of the button extending beyond said peripheral anlge being. recessed, together with a lamp-holding shell surrounding said extended: end of the button, and

3. An adapter comprising an insulating `buntton having a transversely elongated recess at its outer end,
contact studs arranged at opposite ends of said recess, screw shell and center contacts arranged at the entering end of the button, and means passing through the button and serving to electrically connect and mechanically secure the screw shell to one of said studs and the center contact to the other of said studs, substantially as described.
