My invention relates to lamp receptacles and particularly to tacles which are primarily adapted to indicate the flow of current in the circuit in which the receptacle is installed, and the object of my invention is to provide a compact and efiicient device of this type in which the signal lamp'may be readily 1nstalled.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a plan, with' bulls eye and plug recepinvention is embodied; Fig; 2 is a longitudinal section thereof on the line 2-2, Fig. 1; Figs. 3 and 4 are respectively plan and vertical section on the line 4-4, Fig, 3, of a simple bulls in which my invention is embodied. v

The fitting shown in Figs. 1 and 2 coman insulating base 10 divided by partitions 11 and 12 into three chambers A, B and C. In the first is arranged a switch mechanism 13, here shownof the single push button type; in the second, a single lamp 14; in the third, terminals 15 for an attachment plug. The leading-in-wires are secured to the binding screws 16-17 on the straps 18-19 which are integral with the switch terminals 20-21, while the switch terminals 22-23 are connected by conductor plates 2425 'with the lamp terminals 26-27 in chamber B, and the plug terminals 28-29 that these appliances are placed in parallel with the switch circuit when the switch is on.

The lamp terminals in chamber B, with which my invention is principally concerned, are of such nature and so arranged that the lamp lies horizontally in the chamber and diagonally thereof, so that the porcelain base may be made of uniform depth throughout its length and this depth is at the same time only that required for the standard types of switches and attachment plug receptacles employed. The lamp receiving .terminals comprise a spring clip, the upstanding arms ofwhich have bowed portions :12 and y to embrace the threaded shell 30 of the lamp base. In line with the axis of these bowed portions, the spring terminal 27 has a forward projection a which, when the lamp is adjusted in position, is slightly pressed back by the center contact, 31 of the lamp base and a good electrical connection established. The two terminals 26-27 are not only secured in posrtion, but also brought into the switch clrcuit by securing screws 32 and 33 which connect themto the conductor plates 24-25 in the lower face of the base.

The fitting as a whole is adapted to be mounted in an outlet box by means of the outwardly extending ears 34 into which the screws for the face plate 35, with bulls eye 36, are also threaded, in well known manner.

The embodiment of my invention shown in Figs. 3 and 4 is substantially the same as that shown in Figs. 1 and 2, except that here the switch and plug receptacle are omitted and the wire terminals 37-38 are formed on angled straps fitted in the opposite ends of the lamp receiving chamber and connected by conducting plates 39-40 to the lamp terminals. The latter are of the same character as in Figs. 1 and 2 and the lamp lies as before diagonally of the chamber,

Obviously the particular structure shown and described is to be regarded as merely illustrative of my invention.

I claim as my invention 1. A lamp receptacle of the character described, comprising an insulating base recessed to form a lamp receiving chamber, a face plate overlying said base and chamber, spring lamp terminals longitudinally spaced apart in said chamber and being shaped to receive and grip the usual screw plug base of an Edison type lamp and hold the lamp in said chamber with its axis in a plane substantially parallel to the plane of the face plate, as described.

3. A lamp receptacle comprisinga base, a face plate therefor, lamp receiving terminals insulated from each other and spaced longitudinally apart on said base and'comprising a spring terminal open at its free end and having an upstanding bowed portion the axis of which is substantially parallel to the face plate to receive the shell contact of a lamp, and a second terminal having a portion in line with the axis of said bowed terminal to cooperate with the center contactwithin said chamber with its axis in a plane of the lamp, substantially as described.

4. A lamp receptacle comprising a base and lamp receiving contacts thereon insulated from each other and spaced longitudi nally apart and comprising a clip with a pair of spring arms flared at their free ends and having oppositely faced bowed portions to receive a lamp shell contact and a second contact having a portion alined With the bowed portion of the clip to cooperate with a lamp center contact, substantially as described.

5. A lamp receptacle comprising a base, a clip mounted thereon and having a pair of upstanding substantially parallel spring arms with oppositely faced bowed portions forming a grip adapted to embrace a lamp shell contact, in combination with a second contact insulated and spaced from the clip and having a portion alined with the axis of said bowed portion of the clip arms to co operate with the center lamp contact.

A lamp receptacle comprising abase, a clip mounted thereon and having a pair of upstanding substantially parallel spring arms with oppositely faced bowed portions forming a grip adapted to embrace a lamp' shell contact, the free ends of said arms being outwardly flared to form a guide, in combination with a second contact insulated and spaced from the clip and having a portion alined with the axis of said bowed porcenter lamp contact.

7. A lamp receptacle comprising a chamber, insulating body face plate therefor and lamp terminals insulated from each other and adapted to receive and hold a, lamp within said chamber with its substantially parallel with said face late, said terminals comprising a. pair of upstanding. spring arms having oppositely faced bowed portions to recelve the shell contact of the lamp and a spring terminal spaced therefrom and having a portion alined with said bowed terminal to cooperate with the center contact of the lamp.

8. A lamp receptacle comprising a chamber, insulating body face plate therefor and lamp terminals insulated from each other and adapted to receive and hold a lamp substantially parallel with said face plate, said terminals comprising a pair 0 upstanding sprlng arms having oppositely axis in a plane a faced bowed portions to receive the shell contact of the lamp and a spring terminal spaced therefrom and having a portion alined with said bowed terminal to cooperate with the center contact of the lamp, the 'base of the chamber being recessed to accommodate the lamp bulb.

9. A lamp receptacle comprising a base, a

lamp receiving contacts thereon, conducting strapsbeneath the base and independently connected to said lamp receiving contacts, said contacts being spaced longitudinally apart upon said base and comprising a pair of spring arms open at their free ends and having oppositely faced bowed portions to receive the shell contact of alamp and a second terminal having a portion alined with the axis of the bowed terminal to cooperate with the center contact of the lamp.
