The steering wheel of the vehicle is Vindicated by the numeral l and the propelling wheels by 'the numeral 2. -rlhe steeringv wheel has its shaft journaled in suitable bearings in the forked end 3 of a steering post7 the said post being journaled in a steer- 'ing column l and having its end outward of the column provided with a steering wheel 5. At its forward end the platforml is centrally provided with a depending plate or bracket 17 through which the rod or shaft passes, the plate or bracket 17 being in slight contacting engagement with. the bracket 7.
The propelling wheels 2 are loose on the shaft 10, the inner ends of the hubs of the said wheels contacting with the bearing members 9, and the outer ends or bases of the hubs being provided with ratchet wheels 18. On the outer ends of the shafts 10 there are keyed cranks 19. rlhe cranks are preferably in the nature of flat plates and are centrally connected to the axle. The cranks have pivotally secured on their-.inner faces Y preferably spring influenced dogs 2O which are designed to engage with. the ratchet wheels on the propelling wheels 2. Pivotally connected to the cranks 19 are links 23. The links are also pivotally connected to arms 24. The larms 2a are disposed at an outward angle with respect to the platform 15s the said arms being in the nature of metal plates offset as at 25 from the portions 26 thereof which are secured to the sides of the platform.
ln practice7 the operator stands on the platform and grasps the steering wheel 5. The operator exerts alternate pressure on the platform at the sides thereof opposite the shaft 13 so that a continuous tilting movement of the platform transversely with respect to the longitudinal plane thereof is imparted thereto, and such movement of the platform will influence the links 23 to cause the pawls on the cranks to engage the teeth of the ratchet wheels on the propelling wheels 2, and thus turn the propelling wheels. Having described the invention, I claim l. In a toy vehicle, a steering Wheel and propelling Wheels, a steering post having a forked cnd in which the steering- Wheel is ating` Wheel lor the post, downwardly inclined brackets secured to the column and to each other, a Vtrame member on the lower bracket, a Vshaft `for the drive Wheels, bearings on the frame member for the shalt, a cleat supported on the 'frame member,` a shaft centrally securedto the Vcleat and one ofthe brackets, a plattornrhaving a bolster on its rear end receivingthe last, mentioned shaft therethrough and having a bracket onits torward end alsov receiving the shaft therethrough, cranks on the propelling Wheel shalt, links connected with the crank, and arms having ol'set ends securedto thelsides journaled, a column for thelpost and an oper' of the platform and connected to the links, as and for the purpose set forth.V
