7 ll son a-citizen of the United States, residing at lbynn, in the county of Essex, State of Mamachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Heating Systerns, of which the following is a specifica tion.
The present invention relates to heating systems wherein elastic fluid is taken from a heat engine after it has performed useful work therein and used for industrial purposes such as heating buildings, in manuacturing processes or the like.- In such systems it is desirable to utilize the heat of the elastic fluid as completely as possible and the object of my invention is to provide an improved system for this purpose. v
' For a consideration of what I believe to be novel and my invention, attention is directed to the accompanying description and the claims appended thereto.
Referring to the drawing, 1 indicates a heat engine or prime mover, here shown as being an elastic fluid turbine having a sup- 1y conduit 2 and an exhaust conduit 3. Ex- ?Uust conduit 3 is connected bylakpipe a to a condenser 5, there being two valves, 6 and a 7 in pipe 4:. Cooling water is supplled to condenser 5 by a pipe 8 in which is a valve 9, and is discharged therefrom to a pipe 10, Condensate is carried away'fi'om condenser 5 by a pipe 11 in which is a valve 12,' pipe 11 leading to a conduit 13 which may convey the condensate to a hot well as is usual.
Leading fi'om a point of intermediate pressure in the heat engine is a pipe 1 1 which connects to a second condenser or heater 15 and in pipe 14: are valves 16 and -1-7 Condensate irom condenser 15 is conveyed by a pipe 18 provided witha valve in series with condenser 5 as re ards the flow dischar of condenser 5 to the cooling water inlet o condenser 15 and being provided with a valve 20. From condenseror heater 15 the cooling water is led away by a pipe 21 which may convey it to any suitable point r or points where it isto be used for industrial oses. In pipe 21 is a valve 22.

The cooling water from condenser '5 passes through pipe to condenser where it is further heated by elastic fluid from an inter mediate stage of the machine 1, the elastic fluid being supplied to condenser 15 by pipe 1a The elastic fluid from this intermediate stage is of course of higher" temperature than the exhaust elastic fluid which is discharged through pipe 4 and in giving up its heat to the cooling water entering by pipe 10, such water is heated to a 'stillh1gher temperature while the elastic fluid is condensed and is condenser or heater which takes elastic fluid fiom the heat engine at-a higher temperature and pressure.
I thus utilize all the heat of the elastic fluid in the most economical manner, and at the same time ,give the engine the benefit of a low exhaust pressure which means a bi h eficiency.

By manipulating valves 6, 7, 16, 17 and 21 ll may shut, ofi either condenser 5 or 15 or connect either .or both condensers to either or both oi thepipes 4: and 11; and by means of the valves in pipes 8, 10, 11, 18, 21, 25 and 27 ll may regulate the flow of cooling water and condensate tomeet any special conditions nnder which the machine may be operating.
It will be understood that the devices 5 and 15 may be considered as being either'or 1110 dinary condensers, closed heaters, or heaters of any suitable type and by the term fcondenser as used in the specification, and claims, I intend to include any suitable 5 forms of heat exchange apparatus such as is adapted for the purpose set forth.
In accordance with the provisions of the patent statutes, I have described the principle of operation of my invention, together with the apparatus which I now consider to means.
What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is
' 1. In combination, an elastic fluid turbine havmg an inlet conduit and exhaust ineaeea to the turbine at a point oi intermediate pressure, conduits for conveying circulating Water through said eondenmrs in series, a heating system conduit to which the circulating water is delivered, means whereby the exhaust conduit may be connected to said second condenser.
2. In combination, a heat engine, two condensers connected thereto at points of different pressures, conduits for eonveying cooling Water through said condensers series, and means whereby either eondenser may he connected to either or or" said different pressures.
