Q. L. BRUCE MANICURING DEVICE Filed July 14 1921 Patentedfiliw. i l, i923,
OLOF L. BRUCE, OF IEIINNEAPQLES, lrZINNl-h MANIC'URING nnv'rcn.
Application filed July 14,
To all w/l om may, concern Be it known that I, OLOF L. BRUCE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Minneapolis, in the county of Hennepin and State of. Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Manicuring Devices; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art towhich it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to a manicuring device, and particularly to such a device comprising a fingernail brusl1. Most people do not have time or inclination to have their manicured by a professional manieurist and a great manyof such persons have little timeto use a complete set of separate manicuring implements on their nails at the time of making theirtoilet.
It is an object of this invention, there fore to provide a manicuring implement which can be quickly used both to brush the finger tips and nails, to remove the accumulation beneath the same and then to push back the cuticle around the nails.
It is a further object of the invention to construct such an implement, the parts of which are substantially integral and which implement can be used while the hands are wet and which will not be injured or damaged by being wet or being handled by wet hands.
These and other objects of the invention will be apparent from the following description made in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which like reference characters refer to the same parts throughout the different views, and in which,
Fig. 1 represents a top plan view of the device;
Fig. 2 is a view in sideelevation of the same;
F igf3 is a central longitudinal section through the device; 7
Fig. 4: is a sectional view of a modified form of the device; and
Figs. 5 and 6 illustrate a modified form of brush having the cleaning and cuticle pushinoimplements thereon.
Referring to the drawings, the device comprises an implement including the usual nails finger nail brush. including the head por' tion a and the bristle portion 6. The brush is provided with the usual handle portion a and in accordance with the present invention, at the outer or head end of the brush a pointed device a is formed which is preferably made integral with the head a which holdsthe bristles. The part prises a tapered. projection exten trally from the n on. e. and l to form a cleaning; point by which i may be removed from beneath the. nails. At the outer end of the handle of the br sh is formeda project e which i in an oval shaped which comprises a convex and concave surface, thus forming a rounded edge portion a. The curved comparatively n edge portion thus formed is adapted to press back the cuticle around the finger nail. I
instead of the parts irt "l with the handle, described the h: e member a may be formed separatel from the head a of the brush and have formed at its outer end a curved comparatively sharp edge portion 2 constituting a cuticle pushing device. If desired, the reinforcing member 3 may extend through the handle and into the portion 2, as well as a short materials commonly used for such purpose and that the cleaning member a and the cuticle pushing member a may be made integral therewith or separate therefrom and attached by any suitable meansv In. the modification shown in Fig. 5, the brush 0 is composed of bristles held between twisted strands 4 of wire, the twisted strands being formed into a loop. The wire is bent outwardly at the head end of the brush to form a cleaning point 5 and the wire also projects rearwardly of the brush portion 6 and extends through the handle 8. At the outer end of the handle. the wire is formed into a loop 6 and a" rubber sleeve 7 is placed in position to surround the loop portion of the wire. The wire at its outer edge is preferably flattened, as shown in Fig. 6, so that a comparatively sharp edge is formed which constitutes the operating edge of the cuticle pushing implement formed by the loop 6. If desired, the handle may be made entirely of the wire without the surrounding handle portion 5.
The implement is designed for busy perhead. theoutr end of sons who have not a great deal of time to spend on -manicur1ng operations and yet who desireto have their nails kept in proper and pleasing condition. The device can be kept in the bath room and the tips of the fingers and the finger nails can be brushed at about the same time that the hands are washed; While the nails are moist and the soiling accumulation under the nails:
softened the same can be quickly removed by the member (1 The cuticle also being softened by the washing operation the same can'be easily and quickly pushed back by the pusher ax.
which are n'otyusually conveniently athand and which one does not wish to use with wet hands, is eliminated. The device of the invention can be covered with soap and water and not damaged and the manicuringf operation 1s thus conveniently and qulckly performed. a p g It will, of course, be understood that various changes may be made in the form,
details and proportions of the device without departing from the scope of applica'nts inventlon, which, generally stated, consists The whole operation 'can' be done while the hands are StlllWGt and the elaborate use'ofmanicuring implements in the matter shown and described and deinto a cuticle pushing implement at the i outer endoi": the handle.
ihe structure set forth claim 1 and wire forming the cuticle pushing implement. V 3. A manicuring implement comprising; a cuticle pushing device formed of a wire loop, the outer side of said wire in said loop being flattened to form an edge.
4. A finger nail brush and manicuring a rubber cap enclosing the portion of the implement comprising the usual bristle earrying portion, a handle portion extending therefrom and formed at its outer end to constitute a cuticle pushing tool and, a
pointed tooth projecting from the other end f ofsaid bristle carrying portion adapted to form a nail cleaning implement.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature. V
