An important object of the invention is to provide means whereby the electric lamp. mounted upon the bar may be detachably rel of a firearm, in a secure and convenient manner, and may be thus employed in providing light when shooting the firearm in the dark.
A further object of the invention islto provide a clip for detachable connection I with the barrel of the firearm, and also having detachable connection with the body portion of the lamp, such clip affording proper vision of the sight of the firearm,

A further object of the invention is to provide means-whereby the lamp may be carried within the sleeve of the user, and connected with the garment of-the user, in a manner to prevent the device from being lost, and to permit of its convenient withdrawal when desired.
A further object of the invention is to provide means for adjusting the focus of the light by shifting: the bulb with respect to the lens, whereby the device may be employed to produce a spot light or flood light, as desired.

constituting the body portion of thedevice. This casing is preferably provided -with inwardly spun annular flanges 16 and 17, spaced, as shown.
An outwardly bulging flange 18, in the forward end of the casing, receives and holds a lens 1-9.
The numeral 20 designates a spherically curved reflector, provided at its forward end with an outwardly extending annular flange 21, engaging behind the flange 16. This flange 21 is held against the flange 16 by an electrical insulating sleeve 22, as shown.
The numeral 2 3 designates a cylindrical cap. which is adapted to be detachably mounted upon the casing'15,,the cap and easing being preferably formed of sheet metal. The cap 23 is provided with one or more inwardly projecting portions 2' adapted to pass into L-shaped slot or slots 25. out in the rear end of the casing 15.
By this means the cap is held upon the easingagainst accidental displacement. This cap carries the various elements of the circuit.
The numeral 26 designates a metallic sleeve. having: its rear end open and provided. with a flange 27. At its forward end the sleeve is provided with an inwardly ex tending flange 28, The sleeve 26 7 passes through the central opening of an insulating element or ring 29 and the flange 27 is held between this insulating ring and the end of the cap 23, and is in electrical contact therewith. An insulating disk or plate 30 is ar ranged upon the rear face of the cap 23, and a metallic plate 31 is disposed upon the rear face of the insulating plate 30. A metallic screw 32 passes through the plate 31, plate 30, cap 23, and engages within an Opening 33 int-he insulating element 29, and serves to bind these parts together. Particular attention is called to-the fact, at this point, that the screw 32 has electrical contact with the metallic plate 31, but is insulated from the cap 23, such screw passing through an opening 34:, which is larger in diameter than the screw. The numeral designates a metallic screw passing through the insulating plate 30 the cap 23 and the insulating element 29, and serves to clamp these parts together. The screw 35 is insulated from the rear plate 31, as its head is arranged within a recess 36, formed in this plate, and outof electrical contact with the plate. The screw 35 also passes through an opening 3'7, in the cap; 23, which opening is much larger in diameter than the screw, and
hence the screw has no electrical contact with the cap. The screw 35 is of course metallic.

The forward end of the contact element 38 is slightly curved, as shown at- 4.2, to engage upon opposite sidesof a depression as. in the casing 15, thereby serving to hold the contact element 38 in the forward or rearshifted position. It is" obvious thatwwhen the contact 38 is shifted rearw rdly so that it. engages the screw such screw will. then have electrical connection with the casing The numeral 42' designates a metallic socket. having a flange ale-3 at its rear end, extending outwardly, as shown. A compressible coil spring ll is arranged within the sleeve .26, between the flange and the flange 43. This spring tends to more the socket 4:2 rearwardiy within the sleeve 26. The numeral 4.5 designates an electric bulb. having an exterior terminal 46. screw threaded within the sli-dable socket l2. and an interior terminal 47, which is in contactwith an adjusting element or screw l8, having a milled head -19. The screw $8 has no electrical contact with the cap as it passes through an enlarged opening 50, but, this screw has electrical contact with the outer plate 31 as it has screw threaded en gagementwith this outer plate, at 51. By turning the screw l8, it will of course be moved longitlulinally, and this will sh ft the socket 42' and the bulb longitudinally, thereby varying the focal distance of the bulb with respect to the lens. By this means. the device may be employed to pro duce a spot light or a flood light.
Detachably connected with the screws 32 and '35 are plugs and 53, having connection with wires 5-1 and which are connected with the opposite pole of a source of current 56, which may be a dry cell.
As more clearly shown in Figs. 1 and 7, the numeral 57 designatesa clip, adapted to be mounted upon the barrel of a pistol. This clip is preferably formed of sheet metal and embodies an upper hollow portion 58. V-shaped in'cross section, the s des of which are connected by means of rivets 59 or the like. Extending downwardly and outwardly from the lower edges of these sides are transversely curved jaws 60, adapt-' ed to be forced over the top of the barrel of the pistol, and having their free edges engaging the. lower portion of the barrel.
Stops 61 may be formed upon the forward end of the jaws'GO." As clearly shown in Fig. 1, the clip does not interfere with a clear vision of the sight of the barrel.
The numeral 62 designates a finger or bracket secured to the casing 15, at its forward end, and this finger is adapted to engage within the forward end of the clip 57..
-while abracket- 62, having a vertical end 63, is adapted to engage with the rear end ofthe top of the clip. The bracket 62' is secured to the rear portion of the casing 15. It is obvious that the casing 15 may be securely held upon the clip 57, and may be removed therefrom when desired.
I also provide means whereby the device may be carried in the sleeve of the user. and sue-h means comprises a. forward clip (i-il, provided at its forward end with a hook 65. This hook engages in an opening or slot 66. in a plate 67., rigidly attached to the plate 31, (Fig. 5) and preferably formed integral therewith. The clip ('S-l: has its rear portion slotted for connection with a longitudinally extensible elastic element 67. such as a section o't elastic webbing. The elastic webbing 67 has its rear end secured in a slot, 68, formed in a rear clip (39. having a bent end 70, adapted to engage over the edge of 1 the slc-re opening, as shown in Fig. 9. Instead of en'iploying the elastic webbing 6? it is obvious that I may employ a retractile coil spring or other elastic element.

The button l1 may be moved rearwardly and contact 38 will engage the screw 35, and if the circuit is otherwise closed to the source of current, the bulb to will glow. In this closed circuit, current will flow from one pole of the source of current :36, through wire 54, plug screw 32, plate 31, screw 48, the interior terminal l? of the bulb 45, through the filament ot the bulb, through the exterior terminal 46, socket 4:2, sleeve 26, cap :23, casing 15, contact 38, screw 35, plug 53, and through wire 55 back to the opposite pole of the source of current. Of course it is obvious that a second switch may be connected in either wire 54 or 55, as is desired.
In Fig. 9, the device is disconnected from the pistol or gun, and is shown carried within the sleeve 71 of the garment or coat. The hook is engaged over the material 72- of the armhole. The elastic element 67 normally retains the .casingloup in the.
sleeve, to permit of the user withdrawing the casing 15 from the sleeve, so that the same may be held in the hand of the...user, and manipulated as an ordinary flash light.

electrical connection contacting with the metallic plate and insulated from the cap, a second electrical connection carried by the cap and insulated therefrom and from the metallic plate, and a switch device having electrical connection with the casing and adapted to engage the second electrical connection.

In an electric lamp of the character described, a casing, a lens held within the casing, a reflector held within the-casing rearwardly of the lens, a metallic cap carried by the casing, -a metallic plate mounted upon the metallic cap and insulated therefrom, a sleeve arranged within the casing and electrically connected with said cap, a socket slidable within the sleeve and having electrical connection therewith, a spring to move the socket rearwardly, a bulb held within the socket and having an interior terminaland an exterior terminal 'engaging'the socket, an adjusting element having electrical connec tion with the metallic plate and engaging the interior terminal of. the bulb to shift the bulb and its socket forwardly, an electrical connection engaging the metallic plate, a second electrical connection carried by the cap and'insulated therefrom and from the metallic plate, and means for effecting an electrical connection between the second electrical connection and said metallic cap.

5. n HII'ElQCUlC lamp of the character described. a casing, a lens carried thereby, a sleeve held within the casing and extending longitudinally thereof, a socket slid-able within the sleeve, a bulb carried by the socket and having an exterior terminal engaging the socket and an interior terminal, an adjusting screw carried by the casing and engaging the interior terminal of the bulb and serving to shift the socket tomvardly, means for connecting the screw with one pole of the source of current, and means for connecting 4 the sleeve 'with the opposite pole of the source of current.

In a device of the character described, a clip to be mounted upon the barrel of a fire arm, said clip including a hollow portion which is substantially V-shaped in cross section and having spaced sides and a top, said sides being provided. with jaws to engage about the barrel of the fire arm, an electric lamp including a casing, a finger secured to one end of the casing and engaging beneath one end of said top, and a bracket secured-to the casing and having asubsta-ntially vertical portion engaging the opposite end of such top.- I
