fBe it known that we, Moses MOSLER and CARL Barrens, citizens of the United States, residing at New-York, New York County, New York, and Hamilton, Butler County, Qhio, respectively, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Safes, of which the following is a specification.

The shell of the safe, together with the front 16 and the jamb port-ion 't and the flange 5 is, preferably, formed of one piece of metal bent to shape, the metal being first cut to "proper form, as illustrated in Fig. 4, and then'bent, a seam being formed, by. welding, at one of the lower corners of thesa-fe. If the door-j amb is provided with sockets, then the corners of the door, instead of being formed for mitering, and
mitered, are formed to receive the fillingpieces 19 which carry the dowels 20, and in case the socketed filling-pieces 17 of the door-jamb interiorly over lap the doorjamb of the body sheet, then the'margins of the door should appropriately over-lap the filling-pieces19.
The interposed layer ,9 of insulating material. and the metallic lining sheet are preferably laid against the metal 'of thershell before it is completelybent, so that the bend ing of the three layers may take place at once, and the same remarks apply to the construction of the door. ,Regardless, of whether the lining and insulating material be bent at one time with the shell or door, the character of thebends serves to pre- .vent any displacement of the layer of insulation The back-platefi may be, secured to the flange 5, as by screws,'and is to be formed of two thicknesses of metal with an interposed layer of insulating material, The

We claim 7 1. A safe comprising a metallic shell and a layer of non-combustible material disposed against the interior of said shell, said shell and layer extending in parallel relation throughout, an exterior portion of the safe,

A safe comprising outer and inner metallic sheets with an interposed non-com-- bustible layer, all three members being bent to form a side wall .with offsets therein, a front wall and a stepped door jamb spaced inwardly from said side wall, said three members extending in parallel relation throughout said portions of the safe.

A safe comprising a metallic shell and a non-combustible layer disposed against the inner face thereof, said members being bent to extend in parallel relation throughout the sides, top, bottom, front, stepped door jambspaced inwardly from the exterior portions, and lnturned rear marginal flange, a back plate secured to said flange and an interiorboxhaving its front edges secured to the'rear edges of the door jamb and its rear portion spaced from saidback plate. 7' j a I p 6.
