Description

W. M. SIMPSON OIL COOKING STOVE Aug, 7, '1923. 1,463,976
Filed Jan. 28 1921 Patented Aug. 7, 1923.
WILLIAM MORRISON SIMPSON; 0F HASTINGS, ENGLAND.
OIL COOKING STOVE.
Application filed January 28, 1921. Serial No. 440,785.
(GRANTED UNDER THE PROVISIONS OF THE ACT OF MARCH 3, 1921, 41 STAT. In, 1313.)
To all whom it may concern." Be it known that I, IVILLIAM MoRnrsoN SIMPSON, a subject of the King of Great Britain and Ireland, residing at 15 Godwin Road, Hastings in the county of: Sussex, England, haveinvented a new and useful Improvement in Oil Cooking Stoves (for which I have filed application in Great Britain 6th November, 1919, No. 27319/19), of which the following is a full and complete specification.
This invention relates to oil stoves for cooking purposes, of the type having a plurality of independently operating heating burners and it consists of the combination in the manner hereinafter more particularly specified of one or more vapour burners and a single oil burner which is arranged to operate as a burner both for cooking purposes and for heating the vapourizer for the vapour burner or burners, and it has for its object to simplify the initial heating of the vapourizer for the vapour burner or burners and dispense with the use of torches or other extraneous means for initially heating up the vapourizer.
In the accompanying drawing which illustrates a cooking stove constructed according to this invention having a single vapour burner Figs. 1 and 2 are views and plan respectively.
In both views similar parts are marked with like letters of reference.
On a base plate 6 carrying a suitably shaped frame 00 and bars or grids c on which the cooking utensils are placed is mounted an oil burner 64 comprising essentially a burner head, a chimney a and a reservoir a and mounted in a suitable position in relation to the bars 0 and preferably above the level of the oil burner is a vapour burner d which may be of any suitable construction. On the base plate I) is mounted the reservoir 6 for the oil said reservoir being provided with the usual filling orifice and pressure pump. This reservoir is connected with the fuel nozzle 7 which co-operates with an air induction pipe 9 in the well-known manner in side elevation by means of a pipe h which passes into or through the chimney a of the 011 burner a at a suitable distance above said burner so as to operate as a vapourizer. The plpe it passes through the chimney a at such a height above the burner a as will avoid the formation of soot on it and is preferably arrangedat such an inclination as will place its outlet or nozzle end at a higher level than I the part passing through the chimney of the oil'burner. n
In order to provide for the removal of the oil burner for cleaning or other purposes the part of the pipe h passing through the chimney a may either be mounted on or in said chimney a and said chimney be carried PATENTOFFICE.
eitherdirectly or indirectly by the frame 00 as shown in the accompanying drawing, or
the chimney may be mounted in the usual way on the reservoir in which case a transin the chimney for the passage of the pipe it said slots or openings being so arranged as to permit of the withdrawal of the reservoir and banner without disturbing the vapourizer, suitable means such as slides being provided for opening and closing'said slots or openings. I
. A screw down needle valve m is fitted in the pipe h or fuel nozzle for the purpose of regulating the flame of the burner 03.
It will be understood that the vapourizer may be made of any desired shape or size according to the shape and size of the oil burner, and further that any number of atmospheric burners may be employed in combination with one oil burner, the vapourizer or vapourizers for said vapour burner or burners being heated by the oil burner.
What I claim is 1. In an oil cooking stove having a plurality of independent heating burners, the combination of an'oil burner, a chimney for said burner, one or more vapour burners and a vapourizer for said vapour burner or burners located in the chimney of the oil burner.
2. In an oil cooking stove the combination of an oil burner, a reservoir at atmospheric versely arranged slot or opening is provided pendent reservoir under pressure in communication with said vapourizer;
3. In anoil cooking stove the combination of an oil burner, a reservoir at atmospheric pressure from which said burner draws its,
oil, a chimney for saidburne'r, one or more vapour burners at a higher level than the oil or burnerssaid vapour pipe passing-through. the chimney of the oil burner at an inclina tion so that the flow of vapour is in an up- Wfll'ClzdlI'GClllOIl. I
4. In an oil cookln'g stove the combination ofa base plate, a frame carried by said plate,
a grid carried by said frame, an oil'burner withdraw-ably mounted on said base plate under said grid, a reservoir at atmospheric pressure from which said burner draws ts o1l,'a chimney for said Oll burner mounted on said frame,-one or more vapour burners mounted on said'base plate under said grid,
a vapourizer passing through the chimney of the oil burner, and an independent reservoir in connectionvvithsaid vapourizer and provided with means for creating pressure in same, a
5. In an oil cooking stove the combination of. a base plate, a frame carried by said plate, a grid carried by said frame, an oil burner, an oil reservoir for said burner mounted on said base plate, a chimney carried by said oil burner and having a transversely arranged slot or opening fitted with one or more closing slides, one or more vapour burners mounted on said base plate under said grid, a vapourizer for said vapour burner or burners, said burner or burners passing through-the slot or opening in the chimney of the oil burner, thereby permitting the oil burnerto be Withdrawn for cleaning or other purposes Without disturbing the vapourizer, and an independent reservoir withmeans for creating pressure insame mounted on said base plate and in communication with said vapourizer.
