APPLICATION FILED Nov. 8, 1921.

GEORGE H. LEFHEIT,
OF AURORA., IL'LNOIS.
LIQUID-reni; nonnen?.
ill'.
Application. filed November To all whom t may concern:
Be. it known that l, Gnonon H. Lmrrrnrr, a citizen of the United States, residing at Aurora, in the county of Kane, State of illinois, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Liquid-Fuel Burners, of which the following is a specification.
rlllhe object of my invention is to provide a highly eflicient and therefore economical burner for liquid fuel such as kerosene, for example, that is especially adapted for use in the lire boxes of cooking and heating stoves, and with this object my invention consists in the burner having the characteristics of construction defined by or included within the scope of the appended claims.
In the accompanying` drawing:
Fig. 1 is a vertical section of a burner embodying my invention;
Fig. 2 is a front elevation thereof;
Fig. 3 is a top plan view.
Describing in detail the embodiment of my invention shown in the drawings, such embodiment has a base, 10, of sheet steel that is of substantially Ushape, below the top and between the legs of which extends the oil feed pipe, 11, provided with a controlling valve, 12., and to the top of which base is bolted a platform or bracket, 13, which projects beyond one edge of said base and has a vertical hole, 1li, for the passage of the. vertical pipe portion, 15, of the burner, the lower end of said pipe portion beneath said platform being screwed to an elbow, 16, which is connected with the feed pipe. rlllhe platform is bi'l'urcated so as to provide two diverging lugs, 17, and upon the latter is mounted a horizontal baille plate, 1S, that is substantially of disk form and which is fixed in position by two bolts, 19, which pass down through'holes in the baille plate and through holes in the lugs and through holes in the horizontal portion of the base, 10, thus the same bolts serving to unite base, platform and baflie plate.
The pipe or tube, 15, at a substantial distance above the bafile plate is bent into a partial coil that comprises an upper hori- Zontal portion, 20, and a lower horizontal portion, 21, the end 0f the latter being closed and its underside having` a fuel outlet, 22, situated substantially centrally above the baille plate so that fuel in a gas Specification of Letters Patent.

forni is discharged therefrom and delivered to the top of the baffle plate where combustion takes place and a flame is produced that spreads over the top surface of the baffle plate and extends upward into the fire boa: producing therein an intense heat. The top of the baille plate is preferably slightly dished as best shown in F ig. 1. rEhe pipe or tubing is preferably of steel and the fuel outlet therefrom. is preferably provided in a brass plug, 23. The plug projects into the tube and the outlet through the plug tapers from its inner end outward thus mak ing it impossible for the opening to become clogged loy the lodgment of material therein.
The connection between the baffle plate supporting` platform and the vertical pipe portion, 15, is a slidable one so that by moving the platform up or down upon suoli pipe portion the proper distance from the `gas outlet to the top ofthe baffle plate may be secured and thereby that relative position of outlet and baffle plate secured which is necessary to give proper combustion and securey the highest efficiency of the fuel. lhen the desired adjustment is made, the platform is lined to the pipe as by means of a set screw, 25, which passes through a threaded hole in thepipe encircling por tion of the platform and bears against the side of the pipe.
l/Vhat l" claim is:
1. A liquid fuel burner comprising a horizontal baille plate, a platform on which the baffle plate is mounted, a base, means connecting base, baille plate, and platform, and a pipo having` a fuel outlet and situated a spaced distance above said baille plate,i said pipe having a vertical. portion upon which said platform is mounted for adjustment towards and from said outlet.
2. A liquid fuelV burner comprising a base, a baffle plate, a platform on which the baille plate is mounted, means vconnecting said base, baille plate and platform, a pipe passing vertically through an opening in said support, and a set screw for securing said support to said pipe, said pipe being doubled upon itself above the baille to provide hori- Zontal portions at different levels, the lower portion having a gas outlet in its underside.
In testimony whereof l hereunto aliix my signature.
