citizen of the United States, residinor at Omaha, in the county of Douglas and tate of Nebraska., have invented certain new and usefnl Improvements in Concretelnserts, of
which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing. y
My invention relates to concrete inserts and has for its principal object a device of` simple construction `which may be inserted ink and securely held in the concrete for supportingpiping, shafting, and the like. r
rAnother object resides in constructing the e insert in such a manner that a lstrap may be secured thereto and engage overa reinforce ing rod embedded in the concrete.
A `further object consistsk in providing means for temporarily attaching t-he insert y to the form board.

My insert is indica-ted at 3 and is exteriorly tapered so that the top is of greater size than the bottom and the front face is preferably rounded. By tapering the insert the concrete will set therearound and securely hold the insert in position. A threaded socket 4: is formed in the bottom of the insert and a transversely extending slot 5 is formed from one side, above the socket, and terminates a short distance from the opposite side. A vertical opening 6 is formed from the top of the insert and leads to the socket 4 as more clearly illustrated in Fig. 4 of the drawings.

and enters the form board. This nail 7 is i used for temporarily attaching the insert to the form board prior to thefpouring of the4 concrete. r y

r strap is adapted to be bent and embedded in the concrete, and in the preferred embodiment of my invention the endsof thestrap will be bent around a reinforcing` rod em-iV l i bedded in the concrete. i

`The strap 8 is extended through the slot 5 in such a position that it will engage the closed end of the slot and will be held in this position by the nail 7. If the reinforcin rods are to be used, they are placed an held in proper position and the ends of the strap 8 bent therearound. When this has been done, the concrete is poured upon the form board and will be allowed to set. After setting, the formboard is lremovedsand the nail 7 will be clipped or cut atthe top of the socket 4. By having the strap 8 perforated the concrete will pass through the perforations and more securely hold the strap and insert in position. The sides'of the insert being inclined Will allow the concrete to set around the insert vin such a `manner that the taper or incline will 'y support said insert in the concrete.v The strap 8 and the reinforcing rod form' an additional sup` port for lthe insert and atl thesarne'time the 'v strap will also aid' in the reinforcing of the concrete. o
