N. MGRGENSTERN Momma EYE Fm: STUFFED TOYS Efild March 229, 1922 wm M www son,

rer
NATHAN MORGENSTERN, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
WIOVTJ'ABLE EYE FOR STUFFED TOYS.
Application filed March 29, 1922. Serial No. 547,614.
To all 'zeil-071?, 'it may con/cern.'
Be it known that l, NATHAN lllonerfivs'rnnN, a resident of Brooklyn, Kings Count State of New York, and a citizen oil the Jnited States ot Almerita, have invented certain new and useful improve ments in lil/lovable Eyes for Stuiled Toys? or which the 'Following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in an eye mechanism 'for dolls or the like, but more particularly lor stuffed dolls or bodies having; a flexible or fabric coveringl stutled with any suitable lilling. My improved eye mechanism is particularly Well adapted for stuiied iigures es will hereinafter be explained.
l Will non proceed to describe my invention in detail, the novel features ot which l will point out in the appended claims, rei2- erence being` had to the accompanying drawing;` wherein zd Fig. 1 is a rear view of the plate portion o'l the casing tor the eye;
.F 2 is a section on line 9.-2 Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a rear view of the eye mechanism assembled ig. is a sectional View on line 8-3 thereof; and y Fig. 5 is a perspective view ot the cover portion ot the casing.
'llo carry out one of the objects ot my invention fully, l provide a cheap. and ethcient casing for an eye which can be nttnched directly to the sack, so to speak,
which contains stuliing, the sack of course,
being shaped in accordance With the ligure to be produced., be it a doll fig-ure,y or an animal ligure, such as a teddy bear. ln the dreivingfa casing men'iber 'for an eye 6 is illustrated comprising' a plate 7, and cover 8, having a closed beck 8a. The plate 7 is provided with un opening' D to receive an eyelet 10. rlhe eyeiet serves to secure the plate 7 to the sack portion of the ligure. a portion olf's cli a sack portion being' indicated by 11. The eye 6 extends pertly throiuzjh 'the eyelet 10 and is pivotally supported by a trunnion member 12'l secured at each end to the side Walls 13 and lli of cover 8. rl`he eye carries a pin 15 in turn supporting a weight 16 oit lead or other ma` terial heavy enough to move the eye upon its pivotal pin 12 When the gure is tipped.
The plate 7 carries an inclined flange 17 at its upper end to receive ilange 18 at the upper end cover 8. The plate 7 also carries` side Aflanges 19 and 2O to engage the sides 21 of the box. The plate 7 is further provided vvith a flange 90 at its lower end `torthe bottom flange 23 of cover 8 to rest against. The cover is snapped into place and depends, for its secureinent, upon a snug;
lit, no 'fastening means being employed,
The cover keeps the stuiling 24 from interfering with the movement of eye G. llVhen the cover is removed :from plate 7 the eye comes away also which is obvious. The eye and plate are formed by suitable dies. My in'iproved eye mechanism is extremely simple, is cheaply manufactured and quickly assembled, ell of which contributes to an extremely inexpensive durable eye mechanism for ligures consisting ot a stuiled preshaped sack. 'lhe plate 7 is secured` to sack 11 by the eyelet 10 With the aid of an eyeletting press. l
llfhat l desire to secure by Letters latent is 1. In an eye mechanism for ligures, comprised oi a stuffed preshaped sack, a plate, an eyelet to secure the plate to the sack, a cover having a closed back carried by the plate, and an eye pivotally supported Within the cover and protruding through the eyelet. l
2. ln an eye mechanism for gures, comprised ot a stuffed preshaped sack, a plate, an ejfelet to secure the plate to the sack, a cover having a closed back carried by the plate, an eye pivotally supported Within the cover `and protruding through the eyelet, and means to releasably secure the cover to the plate. Y y
lnan eyemechanism for gures, comprisinga stuffed preshaped sack, a plate, an eyelet to secure the# plete to the sack.r an inclined flange on said plate, a vertical flange on said plate, an eye pivotally supported relatively to said plate, a cover for said eye,`
and flanges on said cover tor engaging; the flanges on said plate whereby said cover will be releasably held against said plate.
ln testimony whereof4 l hereunto affix my signature.
NATHAN MORGENSTERN.
