To all whom t may Iconfiera/.i
Be it known that l', JACK D. KELLY, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Elmhurst, borough of Queens, county of Queens and -State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Waterproof Carrying Case, ing wis a full, clear, and exact description.
rlhis invention has relation to rece tacle's or containers and refers more particularly to a waterproof carrying case whic is especially designed for bathers. A
Une* of the principal obfects of the present invention resides in the provision of a waterproof case. which is adaptedto' contain cigarettes, matches, cosmetics, money, or
the like, which is provided with means for attaching the same to a beach costume wherebythe wearer may enter the water when the case is closed, with the assurance that the contents thereof will be protected from the water. y As a furtherI object' the invention contemplates in a carrying case of the character 25 described means for e'ectively sealing the f cover or closure element against the entrance of moisture, which means may be readily manipulated to cover when desired.
plates a device of the character described which is extremely simple linits construction and operation, inexpensive to'manufacture and produce and which is thoroughly reliable and highly eihcient in its purpose.
With the above in view, the invention resides in the novel construction set forth in the `following specification, particularly pointedA out in the appended claims and illustrated inthe accompanying other than those actually illustrated herein to the full extent indicated 'by the general meaning of the terms in which the claims are expressed. v v
- ln the drawing-A `1`igj ire 1 illustrates the use and application of a carrier `case constructed in accordq ance with the invention.
Fig. 2 is an inner side view thereof illus y trating the manner of attaching the same 'to a beit or other portion of the garment with which it is associated.
is a vertical sectional there...
in the' Referring to the of which the followf facilitate the opening of the As a further object the invention contemrecited and other obiects drawing, it being understood I that the right is reserved to embodiments 24 which .define Athe depression 18 serve to operates to force the cover against through taken approximately on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2
Fig. 4i is a plan view thereof with the cover partly broken away.
drawing by characters intacte of reference, the case comprises a tubular f body -10 which is closed at its lower end and open at its upper end. A marginal exterior Bange 11 is arranged adjacent to and spaced and the same lis or groove 12 inthe within -whicch the from the upper open end provided with a channel upper surface thereof compressible gasket 13vis disposed. A tubular telescopic cover 14 is adapted` to be associated with the `upper open end of the body V10 and said cover,4 is provided with a closed upper end anda lower open endthe edges of which are provided with an out-turned bead or flange 15 designed to be received within the groovevor channel 12 of the .flange 11. The closed end of the cover isprovided with longitudinally slopin portions "16 which are inclined downwardly from a cen-y tral elevated portion `17 having atransverse receiving notch ordepression 18, the purpose of which will be hereinafter set forth. A substantially U-shaped bail 19y including side arms 20 and` a connecting bighlt 21 at its upper end is pivotally associated with the body 10 for longitudinal swinging movement. The pivotal associa'tionl of the bail with the body is ac,-y complished ties of the side arms'20 inwardly to provide trunnions 22 which are received vby the bear??y ing sockets 23 provided on the opposite sides of the body 10. The bail 19 is of an appropriate length to forcibly impinge the Harige by turning the free -extrerni-"jV or beadl on the lower open edge of the prevent casual displacement of the bight 21 of the bail from the depression due to the inherent resilient action of the gasket which the bail. ln removing or applyingthe cover, the bight 21 of the bail 19 is'snapped over one of the beads 211'into or out of the depression 18 and '.vhen positioned within the depression, it will be obvious that the lower beaded or flanged open endcf the cover which lies within the channel 1r groove 12y and against the gasket will positively seattliarecepand which are to be protected from thel tacle or case against the entrance of Water or moisture. The body of the case is provided with suitable elements for attaching the same to the belt or other article with which the case is to be associated, said elev ments being specifically' illustrated herein as safety pins 25, the pointed extremities 26 of which are engageable under the hooked terminals 27 and locked in place by the tubular slides 28. .As specifically illustrated the ange 11 is formed on an external sleeve 29 which surrounds. the mouth or upper open vend of the body 10 and which is soldered,
water While permitting the case to be submerged the'rein. I claim: 1. In a 'waterproof'arrying case of the character described, a tubular body and cover each having a closed end and an open 'end and adapted for telescopic association,
an exteriorly disposed channeled flange provided on theV body adjacent lthe open end thereof, a resilient gasket therein, an outturned flange or bead on the open end of the coveradapted to enter the channeled flange and engage the gasket, a bail pivoted l Leeacae to the body forlongitudinal swinging movement, a pair ofA centrally disposed upstanding parallel beads on the cover defining therebetween a receivin 1 depression or groove for the reception o the bight of said bail, whereby upon engagement with the cover said; bail will function to impinge the out-turned flange of the cover against theA gasket and said gasket in turn will function to tensionally maintain the bight of the bail within the receiving depression against casual displacement. A
2. ln a waterproo carrying case of the character described, a tubular body and cover each having a closed end and an open end and adapted for telescopic associat1on, an externally disposed flange provided on the body adjacent the open end thereof, a resilient gasket seated on said flange' with which the open end of the cover is adapted to engage when in closed position von the body, a bail pivoted to the body for longitudinal' swinging movement, a pair of centrally disposed upstanding parallel beads on.
the cover defining therebetween a receiving depression or groove for the reception of the bight of said bail, whereby upony engagement Withv the cover said bail will function te impinge the open end .of the cover against the gasket and said gasketwill in turn function to tensionally maintain the bight of the bail Withinl the receiving dee pression against casual displacement.
