Another object is; the ,provision-g of; such a bracket for supporting the clothes line, and having novel means for holding the line when the bracket is swung out through the opening to the outside.
It is also the object of the invention to improve the device generally in its construction and detail, to enhance the utility and efficiency thereof.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, which will be apparent as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes can be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a side elevation of the device showing the bracket swung into the room as when placing the clothes on or removing them from the line, the window frame or casing being shown in vertical section.
Fig. 2 is a horizontal section on the line 22 of Fig. 3 withthe bracket on the exterior of the building.

In order to hold the bracket when swung into the room, a catch 15 is'pivoted, as at 16, to said jamb of the window frame at the inner side of the window, and has hook notches 17 to engage the arm 8 and hold the bracket in place. A similar catch 18 is pivoted to the jamb at the exterior of the window frame, to engage the arm 8 when the bracket is swung to the outside, as seen in Figs. 2 and 3, to-thereby hold the bracket in outstanding position and to prevent the accidental swinging thereof against the window pane.
The free end portion of the arm 8 has an eye 19 extending to one side, and a pulley 20 is carried by a hook member 21 to engage insaid eye. The endless or movable clothes line 22 passes around the pulley 20 and around another pulley 23 which is supported at a distance from thebuilding by means of a pole 24 or other support, whereby the.
clothes line can be made to travel to and from the building.
In order to hold the clothes line when the bracket is swung on the exterior, a pair of links or retaining arms 25 is provided, each of them having a loop 26 at one end embrac- 11 receiving a retaining pin or member 28" which can be readily inserted downwardly into the loops 28. 1
In using the device, after both sashes 13 are raised, and the catch 18 disengaged from the arm 8, the bracket is swung lnwardly through the window opening into the room, and the catch 15 is engaged with the arm 8 to hold the bracket in place. The pin'29 is now withdrawn from the links 25, to release the clothes line 22. The clothes can then be readily pinned or pegged on the line, and
same to the outside. If it is desired to close the'win'dow, the two runs of the line 22 are moved between'the links 25 and the pin 29 inserted. The catch 15 can now be released from "the arm 8, thereby permitting the bracket to be swung outwardly, as seen in Figs. 2 and 3, the pin 29 holding the line and preventing same from sagging appreciably The lower sash can now be lowered: for closing the window. After the clothes have dried, the window is again opened and and the pin 29, removed for pulling the clothes into the room andremoving them links 25 'by'the pin 29, and the bracket swung to the outside and fastened by the catch'1 8.
By using the bracket on the interior of the building, there is no danger of the operator slipping or falling, and the clothes can be conveniently fastened on and removed window or otherwise using more or less exertion.
Fig. 6 shows a line holding member composed of one piece or strip of metal, having a vertical yoke 26 and the angularly extending terminals or arms 25'. The arms 25 have apertures 28 to receive the line holding member 27 secured to the shaft.
Having thus describedthe invention, what I is claimed as new is the line moved for carrying clothes 'Wlth" Aj clothes line bracket having a vertical shaft, means forsupporting said shaft for turning movement, a clothes line pulley carried by the bracket, a pair of arms mounted loosely on said shaft to turnaround said shaft and adapted to receive the clothes line between them, means on said shaft for supporting said arms in the desired vertical position, said arms having apertures, and a pin insertable in said apertures to retain the clothes line between said arms behind said I "pin. the bracket swung into the room as'before,
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of I 'two subscribing witnesses. from the line. After, the-clothes are removed the line 22 isagain fastened between the v JOHN P. MUNFORD.
