"rates 1 GEMENT IN COKE CONTAIN OR THE LIKE Application filed January 19, 1922. Serial Ito. 530,485.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ARNOLD Mo'nrrnm, engineer, a citizen of Switzerland, residing at and whose post-ofice address is Oberwinter- 5 thur, Romerstrasse 21, Switzerland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Arrangements in Coke Containers or the like, of which the following is a specification.
The present'invention relates to a coke cooling apparatus and the like and has for its object to prevent the formation of bridges occurring in the contents of the container, having the eifect of blocking ofi the container outlet and preventing discharge of the contents.
It has been proposed to prevent formation of such bridges and accumulations within the container b 1 arranging a horizontally positioned mem er and mounting it for movement up and down the lengthof the.
apparatus. An automatic lifting device is associated with this member to raise and lower it through the container and thus break up any accumulations and bridges which tend to form.
It has also been ro osed to prevent the formation of these ri ges by agitating orshaking a suitable body arranged within the container, the motion of the bodybeing imparted by a suitable driving engine associated with the container.
I have found that bridging over any apparatus of this kind may be efi'ectually prevented by a simple mechanism which does not re uire for its operation a driving mechanism or other special apparatus. In the practice of my invention I provide two or more ndulum bodies arranged at different points in the container and interconnected in such manner that the motion imparted to any one of the bodies by reason of the movement of the coke in the container is conveyed to the other of the pendulum bodies also. Thus each pendulum body continuall moves about more or less and prevents brid 'n in its immediate vicinity so that by suita ly distributing the body throughout the container bridging over of the contents may be effectually prevented. In the preferred embodiment I arrange the pendulum bodles vertical relation and sus end them from one another by a series of s ort chain connections.
. An embodiment of the subject matter of the present invention is illustrated in the drawing.
Fig. 1 is a vertical section through the coo chamber. Fig. 2 is a vertical section t rough a modified form of cooling chamber.
a represents a receptacle servin for storing and cooling the coke and b is the discharging device. Dischar ing of such receptacles is often rendere diliicult on ac- 05 count of so-called bridges formed within such receptacles by the'masses of coke, which prevent the top layers of coke from entering the discharge 0 ening. The present invention has for object to overcome this trouble. p
In accordance, in said receptacle there are suspended bodies 0, which are set in motion by the masses of coke flowing to the exit openin and will thus prevent the formation of bri ges and warrant a smooth discharge of the receptacle.
In theimode ofconstruction shown in Fi 2 the bodies or members 0 are mechanical y moved in order to increase their effect, by 50 means of a motor d arranged on theoutside of said receptacle. Obviously, the said endulum members may be also moved mec anically in any other suitable manner.
I claim:
1. In a coke cooling a paratus means for preventing bridging o the contents and clogging the container outlet, comprising at least two pendulum bodies arranged at dif ferent points in the apparatus and connections between said pendulum bodies for mutually impartin to each of said bodies movements pro' need by the action of the coke on another ofsaid bodies.
2. In a coke cooling apparatus means for preventin bridging of the contents and clogging t e container outlet, comprising at least two pendulum bodies arrangedat different oints, in the apparatus, such bodies being linked together in ,a chain whereby movement of anyone of said bodies by acchain whereby movement of any one of said tion of coke will be imparted to the other bodies by actlon of coke will be imparted to of said bodies. a the other ofsaid bodies.
3. In a coke cooling apparatus means for In testimony whereof I have afiixed my 5 preventing bridging of the contents and signature in presence of two witnesses.
cloggin the container outlet, comprising at east two pendulum bodies arranged ARNOLD MOETTELI' at different points in the apparatus, such Witnesses: bodies bei linked together. to extend lon F. HEIM,
1o tudinally o the apparatus in the form 0 a AUGUST Bnmoo.
