Application filed December 4%, 1522. Serial No. 604,719.
To all QU/JO'LZ it may concern.
. c A de it known that l tjnonon i citizen of the United ti tates and a resident ot' .irvington, in the county of llssex'and State of New Jersey, have invented new and useful Improvements in Cord" Terminals for Mask Fasteners and the like, of which the following is a specific .tiono This inventionrelates in general to means for connecting a terminal member to a cord, wire, or the like and more particularly to a terminal piece for securing or expensive in construction and which can be easily and quickly connected to a cord, wire, or the like, and to obtain other results and advantages may he brought out by the following description.
Referring: to the accompanying drawings, in which like numerals of reference indicate the same parts throughout the several views, i
.l igure 11. is a perspective view of a mask fastener provided with two or" the terminal or coupling members embodying; the in vention p Figure 2 is an enlarged plan view of one ot the terminal or coupling inen'ibersg Figure 3 is a perspective view of one side oi the couplino' member showing a cord or elastic connected thereto;
Figure 4: is a siniilar view of the o1'ngositel side of the coiipling member; s
Figure 5 is an enlarged longitudinal sectional view taken 'onthe line 0- of l lig. 1, and liig'ure 6 is an enlarged transverse sectional view talten on the line. (3'45 Fig. 1. In the embodiment (it the invention shown on the drawii member comprises blank of sheet metal including; a body portion 1 provided at one.
end with a longitudinally projecting narrow tongue 2. The body portion 1 has struck up on the lines 3and from one side thereof two oppositely disposed ears 5, said .[1 A NET, a.
or terminal member to a cord,
, the coupling or terminal ears extending longitudinally of the body portion w th their ad acent edges disposed on substantially the central inedlan llne of the coupling. The adjacent free edges of the ears are also spaced outwardly fromthe side of the body poition as clearly shown in Figures 3, 5, and Spend an opening 6 is formed in the body portion by the lines 3 at the ends of the ears and the junction points'of the ears with the body portion.
In applying the coupling or terminal member to anelastic cord or the like 7, one end of the cord is slipped beneath the earso so as to overlap the ends 3 of the opening (3. clearly shown in Figures 3 and 5. The
ears 5 arethen pressed downwardly toward the body portion. which action forces a portionot the cord beneath the cars into the opening ,6 and causes a tight engagement of the cord with the ends of the opening 6 and the ends v0t the gear nectod, the cord is securely held against de- Then thus coninnate" tachinentfrom the coupling regardless of the longitudinal tension on the cord. The tern'unal orcouphng member 1s then connected to the mask A in the well-known manner by forcing the tongues 2 through the margin of the inask and returning said y tonpues upon themselves, as clearly shown in Figure 5.
While I have shown and described my invention in connection with a coupling member for mask fasteners, it will be understood that it is adapted for use in many ther terminal or coupling devices, for instance halo and package ties, electrical cord terminals. electric battery connectors, and the like. It will be understood that the form of the invention shown onthe drawings 18 merely for the purpose of: illustrating the principles of the, invention, and that many modifications andchangi-is can be made in the detail construction and use of the invention without departinai fronithe spirit or scope thereof. Therefore, I do not desire to be understood as limiting" myself errcept as'required by the following; claim when construed in the lio htoii the prior art I claim is: y i
A device of the character described including a flat sheet metal body portion having a pair of oppositely disposed substan- Having thus describedthe invention, what v tially parallel ears stamped therefrom to form an opening having one ofrs'aid ears'at each of two opposite sides thereof, said ears being so arranged that their adjacent 5 edges are in spacedrelation to one side of said body portion and are adapted to substantially meet in the plane of the body portion, and a cord overlying said opening beneath said ears, sa dears being pressed toward said body portion tightly against GEORGE A. HANFT.
