WHEELED roy.
Application filed Msroh'lS, 1922. Serial No. 548,250.
To all whom it may concern.: v
13e it' known that I, RALPH P. Fox, a citizen of the United States, residing at Harrisburg, in the county of Dauphin and State of Pennsylvanie, have invented new and useful Improvements in Wheeled Toys, of which the following is u. specification.
This invention comprehends the provision of a wheeled to which is very simple in construction, an designedto cdord oonsiderable pleasure `and amusement to young children, the toy embodying amongst other features, a. platform which is rotated incident to the movement of the toy in its entirety over the ground or surface, the plat form supporting n. Eured toy of any design.
The nature and a vantages of the inven tion will be better understood when the following detailed description is read ineonneeton with the accompanying drawing, the invention residing in the construction, combination, and arrangement of parts es claimed.
In the drawing forming part of this u` plication like numerals of reference inc'- cate similar parts in the several views, und wherein Figure 1 is e side elevation of the toy, partly in section.
Figure 2 is e bottom plan view.
v Figure 3 is a, rea-r eleva-tion.
Figure 4 is a perspective view of the handle support.
Referring to the drawing in detail, 10 in-` dicates spaced ground wheels which are connestedby un axle 11, and while these elements me he constructed from any suitable material, ut they ure preferably constructed of wood. Surrounding the axle 11 is e sleeve 12 preferably constructed of metal, the sleeve terminatin in e flange v13 arranged adjacent one o the wheels 11, while the other end of the sleeve is spaced from the adjacent ground wheel 10 as illustrated in Figures 2 and 3. Supported by the axle 11 between one ground wheel 10 end the adjacent end of the sleeve 12 is a gear 14, which meshes with a ring gear 15 secured in any suitable manner to the underside of a platform 16. This platform is mounted for rotation in a manner to be presently described, and man` ifestly, rotated when the toy is moved over the round or surface, or in other Words, inei ent to the rotation of the oround Wheels 10. The toy is manipulated" through the instrumentality of a handle 18, which is provided with s. support or rest 19 at an appropriate point in its length.
` The handle is. supported vby means of a support of the character illustrated in Figure 4, and which support is preferably formed from a single piece of metal, and possesses a substantially U-shaped cnigu ration.' The spaced parallel portions 19 and 20 of this support straddles the sleeve 12 which surrounds the axle 11, und the portion 20 of said support is slightly curved es at 21 to conform to the curvature of the sleeve in the manner illustrated in Figure 1. The support in its entirety is soldered or otherwise rigidly secured to the sleeve 12. The portion 19 of the support is provided with extensions 22 which ore adapted to be bent downwardly, and thence inwardly, and urrunged in overlapped relation as `et 23,1eposin upon the Jortion 20 of the support. As il ustrated in IFigure 4, these extensions are wholly disposed to one side of the curved portion 21, and assists in preventing casual separation of the support from the sleeve 12. The overlapped ortions 23 of the extensions, as well as t e parallel ortions 19 and 20 of the support are provi ed with alined openings indicated et 24, and 'which openings register with an opening formed in the adJacent end of the handle to receive the ivot 25. As shown in Figure 1, the handle 1s received by the open end 0f the support, and after the pivot 25 is passed throuoh the support and handle, a nut 26 is threaded on the lower end of the pivot to hold the parts lined relatively. A bushing 27 surrounds the pivot 25 and is interposed between the platform und the handle support. The toy is very simple in construction, and can be manufactured and sold ut a very nominal cost. The toy figure indicated at 28 is secured to the platform, und rotates with the lutter, to uford young children considerable pleasure and amusement.
It is to be understood that the toy ligure 28 can very in shape und configuration withpnt departing from the spirit of the inven- While it is believed that from the foregoing description, the nature and advantages of the invention will be readily apparent, I desire to have it understood that I do not limit myself to what is herein shown and described, and that such chances muy be resorted to when desired es all Within the scope of what is claimed.
W'hat I claim is 1. A toy of the character described com` prising spaced Wheels, an axle connecting said wheels, a stationary sleeve surrounding said axle, a handle, a handle support comprsin a substantially U-shaped member stradd ing said sleeve and secured thereto, said handle being received by said support, a platform, a pivot for Said platform, Said pivot being passed `through the handle and said support therefor and associated tl1erewith, a bushing surrounding the pivot and interposed between the platform and said handle, means for eotating the platform 4incident to the rotation of said wheels, and a toy figure carried by the platform.
2. A. top of the character described compria ing spaced Wheels, an -aXle connecting said Wheels, a stationary sleeve surrounding the a1de,a handle, ahandle support formed from a single piece of material and including spaced parallel portions straddling said sleeve and secured thereto, extensions projecting from all of Said portions and arranged in overlapped relation `upon the other of said portions, said support receiving said handle, a platform, a toy figure on said platform, a pivot for the platform, said pvot being passed through said handle and its support,
and means for rotating said platform inci- 3U dent to the rotation of said Wheels.
In testimony whereof I afx my signature.
