UNITED STATES VPATENT OFFICE. 1
MARK REEVE, OF PARALTA, IOWA.`
IMPROVEME'NT IN WATER-FEEDERS FR STEAM`BOIVLERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 146,145, dated January 6, 1874; application filed November 4, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, M. REEVE,of Paralta,
' in the county of Linn and State of Iowa, have` invented certain new and useful Improvements in Water-Feeder for Steam-Boilers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear,
i had to the accompanying drawings, which form partof this specification, in which- Figure l is an elevation, showing the parts Fig.2isa
Likeletters in the different figures indicate like parts. i
. My invention consists of' an automatic boil- `er-feeder, as hereinafter described.
Arepresents a hollow globe. B is a safety tank `or reservoir. C is a pipe leading from tank B to valve-case T. l) is a water-pipe leading from valve-case T to boiler K. E is Van exhaust-pipe connecting with chamber S,
to allow the steam to escape when pipe J is closed. F is a steam-pipe leading from the boiler to the valve-case T. G is an adjustable weight attached to a lever, L. H is a waterpipe leading from the valvecase to the globe A. J is a steam-pipeleading from the valvecaseto the globe. L is alever attached to the plug of the valve-case T, and sustains the .weight G and globe A. N is a packing-nut on the end of the valve-case. O is'the plug tting perfectly in case T, and S is a steamfchamber, and W a water-chamber in the plug O.
The water descends from tank B, through pipe C, into chamber W, and from thence, through pipe H, into the globeA. The weight,
being properly adjusted on the lever L'when the globe is nearly or quite full, it descends `.to the position indicated `by dotted lines and raises the weight, as -shown in Fig. 1. This movement of the globe turns the plug 0 in its i seat, closing'pipeC, and stopping the flow of'` water from the tank, and at the same time opens the steam-pipe F into the chamber S, and allows the steam to `pass through pipe J into the top of the globe A, thus equalizing the pressure, and the water in globe A passes backthrough chamber W, along pipeDto the boiler. of the globe, the weight G descends, bearing lup the globe, reopening pipe C,an`d closing the steam-pipe' F, and the water again` iiows This 1 operation continues until the` water in the i into the globe tillitdescends, as before.
boiler is on a level with ,y the water in globe, when it is in its lowest position;` and when the water in the boiler becomes lower than the.
Alevel of the water in the globe, the water comi mences again to flow from the` globe to the i boiler, and the operation above described will be repeated, thus automaticallyr supplying the boiler with water, and preventing the liability j of the water being exhausted in the boiler.
lVhat I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The oscillating feeder A, in combination with boiler K, adjustable weight and lever G L,
.water and steam pipes C, D, E, F, H, and J,
and self-acting valve-case T and plug O, substantially as and for the purposes described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand.`
MARK REEVE. Witnesses:
J. V. BISHOP, G. L. WILSON.
