IMPROVEMENT IN FRAMES FOR HOLDING WORK ON SEWING-MACHINES.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 146,1 10, dated December 30, 1873; application filed August 27, 1873.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, E. MALCOLM TURNER, of Allegheny City, in the county of Allegheny and in the State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Folding Frame for Holding Work on Sewing-Maehines, 820.; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.

The nature of my invention consists in the construction of a work-holder for sewing-machines or other purposes which will fold together, in the manner hereinafter described.

Figure 1 represents aperspective view and Fig. 2 represents a section of one of the connecting-joints, taken through line a w of Fig. 1.

A A and B B represent bars, which may be made of wood or metal, or other suitable material, and hinged together in the manner represented in Fig. 1, A being hinged to B, and bar A to bar B. These bars are connected together by two sections of lazy-tongs, said tongs being made, as usual, of a series of slats, which cross each other, and pivoted together, so that they will fold and unfold. The section H connects bar A to A, and section G connects B to B.

It will readily be seen that the bars may or pivoted together, as seen. These braces fold up with the other portions of the holder.

This holder "is clamped tothe table of the machine, or elsewhere, by means of screwclamp I, or other suitable device.

The back formed by the bars B B and lazytongs G may be of the same or of less height than the flat portion, and may be held at an angle either by the braces G D, as described, or by any other suitable means.

Having thus fully described-my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

The combination of the frame composed of the bars A A and lazy-tongs H, with suitable clamping devices, and the frame composed of the bars B B and lazy-tongs G, hinged to the former frame, and standing at an angle therewith, substantially as herein setforth.
