UNITED STATES 'FREDERICK .mainsy FULTON, or SAGINAW,"'iviiciie'aiv..v
Application'inea'september 6,-19221, Vserial No. 498,666.
yTo all whom t may concern: p
Be it known that I, FREDERICK J; FULTON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Saginaw, in the countyl of Saginaw andY and ypertains more particularly tol anl .iin-
proved construction and arrangement of parts of a hose supporter whereby-'thc ob-` jects of my invention are attained.
These objects are, first, 'to'provide a hoseV sup-porter of simple construction that can` be quickly applied as a clasp to stockings or other garments and adapted to lie flat against the limb of the wearer so asto show n practically no unevenness in the vfit'ofthe garment. v
My improvement ,1s especially adapted tomeet the requirements of dancers.
A further object is to provide a clasp for hose supporters that will firmly grip the material of the stocking without stretching' or tearing it, thus preventing runs in the material. y
My improved clasp holds the material firmly without putting unduestrain or pressure upon it vand to that end the claspingl device holds the goods by folding the material as distinguished from that type of clasping devices in which the material is held by a clamp or vice-like grip produced by the pressure or clamping action of the *claspl members. 40 With thev foregoing and certain other objects in viewy which will appear later inthe specification, my improvement comprises the devices hereindescribed and claimed and the equivalents thereof.
In the accompanying drawings. Fig. yl is an enlarged perspective view of the preferred form of my improved'clasp, the par-` tially raised position of the lower clasp member being indicated by dotted lines. 1
Fig. 2 .is an enlarged lside view showing the clasp members in the positions they occupy when the topof the stocking is being inserted in the clasp.
close Fig. 3 is a similar view, showing the clasp f Fig.` 4L Aisa lside view of `theclzlas'p,'partly open, as applied to intermediate'thelengtli of a.longstockingI 'or tight',y
As is clearlyshown in the lidrawirigsi,"the
a sheet metal plate, tothe lower endof'whicli is pivoted a leaf'2 consisting Jpreferably'of a-flatf-rame or sheet of meta'lhaving asoft edge, S'of rubber, orequivalent material,
lwhich may be inserted in the frame as shown in Figs. 2 and 3, orattached in anyoth'er` suitable manner.
Asecon'd leafor flap 4, also-.fitted with a` soft edge 5, islpivoted tothe ibody l at a point above the hinge ofm'enibei'@2,qso that'.y vwhen thev member 2 is-turned .'upwardly, fas indicated bythedottedflinesin Figli, and
is thereby made to overlap the 4lower .part
of body l, it'willgalso-goverlap the leaf 4, as vindicated infFigJ.-
f i To apply the clasp, the lower leaf 2 and A the4 lower end of body l are slippeddown y y inside the ystockin untilrthe edge of the stocking comes un er leaf 4;., This leaf is f then. closed down upon body 1 andA leaf 2 is.
raised outwardly and upwardly, the stocking fabric with it, as shownin Fig.
2. When closed, the clasp and stocking fab-l i ric occupy the position shown in Fig 3, `and yare heldv in'place by any suitable fastener', which'lmay be a latch, orfinger, slidably orl otherwise movably secured .upon the body 1.5
It frequently occurs that actors, acrobate and dancers'have tights that are vtoo long. 1 After washing, the tights are stretched to.v
prevent shrinking, and if stretched tooinuch the wearer finds the leg too.' long. My improved claspis adapted to beapplied to kthe t tight near the thigh, to pull up the leg por# tion.l y In that case the clasp, is applied inf` side the thigh portion of the tight aiidgthe body ofthe clasp lies flat againstthel wearers body.A The application of th-edevice for this purpose isshown in'Fig. 4f, in .which-the material ofthe tight is shown extending ipo above andalso belowthe body l OftheclaSp.l
It has heretofore been commonforldanceijs to pull up the `tight and roll thetight around a belt at. the waist, making a large roll,y I 105 i 'l under :or over the corset; andi usually draw-V ing theug'arment too tightfor convenient use` of the limbs..`- My improved clasp,j used as 1 indicated in Fig. 4, will pull the'tight up tothe proper Itension i ,without interfering l. v y with the actionlof the legs', the crease .in the 'i 1device` consistsin'" a flat body-1, for example i `material beingl covered the usual rufflev 1 kclasp maybe fastened to the same tape or' v harness, if desired. The knee or anklelelasp andthe hip clasp are independent of each trunk. y Y l My device is .also adapted -to` catchfa. hip
length stocking at the knee or ankle, as well as atthetop, and the top clasp and the knee other asto the strain. Regardless of the strain or pull on the hip clasp, the ankle need not respond, although both clasps .may be mounted on the same tape or harness.
ln the preferred form illustrated, I have shown the partsv of the device as made of may be employed and any vother construc-` tion of' hinge may be used than that shown thin sheetmetal, but any suitable material in the drawing, without departingv from" the s spirit-of inyinvention, as set forth in the By the means .above described, have produced a simple, convenient, yet strong and durable Clasp that can be manufactured at small expense and that willl not become accidentally unfaste'ned. It is not-liable to tear the' goodsor cause runs vin thev material, and having no outwardly projecting parts is practically invlsible when in use. l
in presence of two witnesses.
YHaving thus described my invention, what claim and desire tosecucfe by, Letters Patr ent is-v-m4 hinged to jthe lower*v part of said body, a second leaf'pivotedy tosaid body above the point of attachment'of saidy lower leaf, said leaves adapted when closed to overlap each other with the `upper leaf between the lowerleaf land the body anda fastening device adaptedtogreleasably secure said leaves in closed position.-
