Description

Patented July 3, 1923.7`
LUIGI sooLA, or NEWCASTLE, WASHINGTON. v Y
ynoon Loox.
AppIioaton filed February 13, `1922. Serial No. 536,129.
To all whom it may cof/wem:
Be it known that Inner ScoLA -is a subject of the King of England, residingvat` Newcastle, in the county of King'and State of l/Vashington, U. S. A., has invented cer-v tain new and useful Improvements in Door Locks, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to an improvement invlocks, wherein pneumatic means are provided for operatingy the look, with such means arranged so that the lock may be operated from a comparatively remote distance.
having an ordinary reciprocating bolt there-- in. The bolt is connected with a pistonfop` erating in a cylinder arranged within the casing, and the cylinder is connected to a remote source vof air under pressure, or to means by whicha pressure of air maybe `generated atpwill, whereby to provide for operating theV locking bolt from such remote point. t
In the drawings: 4 Fig. l is a view in elevation illustrating the application of the improved lock to a door.
Fig. 2 and operating means therefor.
rIhe improved lock comprises a casing or plate l having a guide 2, between which and the wall of the casing is arranged a recipyi'ocatingloclring boltl 3. In the casing in line with the bolt is a cylinder 4 having a piston 5 arranged therein. A rod 6 connects the ypiston 5 and bolt 3, so that the bolt is reciprocated to and from locking position in the movement of the piston. A conduit 7 connects the cylinder et with `a source of air under pressure, as for examy' locking purposes. The invention contemplates a lock casing is an enlarged view of the lock ple, an ordinary air pump 8, though obviously this maybe any' means for inducing" air pressure` within the conduit A7 as theV ,l f invention is not kconcerned with the'particu- 475 ,e
lar air pressure means.l
, Obviously, air under pressure passingthru the conduit 7 will operate the piston and so actuate the locking bolt 3.
yThe vcasing l isv adapted lto be set Iin the frame 9 ofthe member to be looked, as for exalmplea doorwlO, and the latter'is providedwith lan appropriate mortise l1 to receive the lockingy bolt 8 when actuatedA for.
Claims.: i
l. A door lock, comprising a plate, a guide mounted yon the plate, a-bolt slidable be.- tween the guide and plate, a cylinder niount-` ed on the plate, a piston mountedfor re-'g60flciprocating movement in the cylindenanda rod rigidly comiecting the piston and the.v
bolt, and means remote from the cylindery li'or exerting a `pressure on the piston for pro'- ]ecting'the bolt and creating a suction there- 65 on for retracting thefbolt.
2. A bolt lock comprising a plate, alguide mountedoiij'the plate, a bolt slidable in the A guide, a cylinder mounted Ion the plate, 'a piston mounted for reciprocation in the kcylinder having a rod rigidly connecting it with the bolt, and manually operated means for producing a fluid pressure on the pis` ton for vprojecting the bolt and creating a suction-in the cylinder to operate the piston x for retracting the bolt.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature4 in the presence of two witnesses. :LUIGI SCOLA.y
