IMPROVEMENT IN IRON FENCES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 145,902, dated December 23, 1873; application filed October 3, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, TIMOTHY ROGERS, of Kenton, in the county of Hardin and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Clamp for Fence- Posts; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanyingdrawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction of an adjustable clamp for fenceposts, as will be hereinafter set forth.
The figure in the accompanying drawing represents my clamp and a fence-post in perspective.
Letter H represents a fence-post of any ordinary shape. B B represent two sections of horizontal rails made T-shaped. The pickets forming the fence are secured to these T-rails by any suitable devices or means. The clamps which connect the fence-posts to the horizontal rails are constructed substantially as follows Gr G represent two metallic plates, which are made of a form to extend each side of the fence-post, and to lie upon the upper side and under the under side, respectively, of a horizontal fencerail. These clamps are secured to the two adjacent ends of the horizontal rails by means of bolts m. The slots in these plates, through which the bolts m pass, are made elongated, so that the expansion and contraction of the metal will be provided for. Upon each side of the post H, and secured to the plates G by bolts f, are two outward-extending bolts, I I. A plate, J, with orifices, is placed upon the front ends of these two bolts, and there held by nuts h h, so as to clamp the plate against the fence-post.
The clamps thus formed are adjusted up and down on the fence-posts by unscrewing the nuts h h.
' What I claim is- The combination, with a fence-post, of the plates G G, bolts m m, bolts I I, plate J, and nuts h h, with horizontal rails of a fence, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 22d day of September, 187 3.
TIMOTHY ROGERS.
