tion will be better understood when the following detailed description is read in connection with the accompanying drawings, the invention residing in the construction, combination, and arrangement of parts as claimed.
The figure in the drawing is a view in elevation of the machine partly in section.-
Referringto the drawing in detail, 10 indicates a casingor fire box inwhich is arranged a metallic pot or receptacle 11, the latter reposing upon the upper edge of the fire box or casing 10 and closed at its upperend except for an entrance opening 12 through which the metal either in lumps or in a molten state is introduced into the said pot, this opening being indicated at 12 and normally closed by a cover 13 held in effective engagement with the pot by means of the threaded element 14. This cover is pivoted on an arm 15 which projects laterlever 16, the arm being pivoted as at 17 at one side of the opening, so that the cover 13 together with the lever can be easily moved to uncover the opening, or close the latter as the occasion may require. The lower end of the lever is provided with means 18 for looking the lever in the position illustrated. The outlets for the pot or receptacle 11 consists of a tube 19 which extends from the bottom of said pot along one side thereof, projecting from said pot at apoint adjacent the upper end of the casing 10 and communicating with the mold 20.
Arranged above the receptacle or pot 11 is a three-way valve 21 operating within a valve casing 22, the latter being provided with alined hollow bosses 23 and 2 1, and an additional boss 25. Depending from the hollow boss 23 is a short pipe connection 26 which communicates with the pot or receptacle. Coupled with the hollow boss 24: is a maintains themetal in a molten state.
ally or at a right angle from an operating compressed air supplypipe 27"which leads I I from any suitable source of supply, while coupled with the boss 25 is the adjacentend of a carbon-dioxide gas supply pipe 28, the
'60 latter communicating with a supply tank 29. I The valve is provided with a lever 30 so that its respective ports can be brought into proper registration with the receptacle supf plypipe in a manner to be presently de-' scribed, or into communication with the exhaust port 31..
In practice, the cover13 is unseated or opened to allow the metal either in lumps or in a molten state to be introduced into the pct 11, subsequent to which the cover is closed and locked in the manner above stated. The heat from the burner 33 arranged immediately beneath the pot ll y operating the valve lever, the valve may be arranged in a set position to admit the carbon dioxide gas to the pot 11 on'top of the metal contained therein, prior to the admittance of the compressed air to Said pot. The valve lever is then adjusted to seat the valve in another position to introduce into thepot 11 the compressed air, thereby forcing the metal through the outlet conduit into the mold which as shown is coupled with the outlet end of the:- conduit. The valve lever is then moved to position the valve in an exhaust position, thereby relieving the pressure in the pot, so that the'mold may be removed from the nozzle orv the adjacent end of the outlet conduit. It is manifest that I have devised a machine of theclass in ques-.
tion, wherein the simplicity of operation both in charging and discharging the metal,
and also in the combination use of carbon dioxide gas and air under pressure for'the desire to have it understood that I do not limit myself to what is herein shown and 7 described, and that such changes may be re-,
sorted to when desired as fall withinthe scope of what is claimed. What I claim 'is:
A die casting machine comprising a hol low casing, a receptacle having an inlet opening therein mounted in the casing, a lid pivotally mounted on said opening, an opcrating lever on said lid, a tube verticall on the interior Walls of the receptacle and conforming to the curvature of the sides thereof from the bottom to a point near the 10 top.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
JAMES BATE.
