have invented new and useful Improvements in Die-Qasting Machines, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to va. die casting machine, particularly of that iypcin which the molten mes'zal is ejected from the meial pot through an outlet or mouth piece by an ere pelling plunger, operated manually or by pneumatic means. i

The upper end of the valve 29 isintegral with a stem 3 1 and is provided with a cylindrical threaded portion 34: engaged by a split clamping nvt 35 resting upon a hard metal friction disk or washer 35 seated upon the top of the mouth piece 13, whereby the valve is adjustably supported andvmay be maintained in close engagement with its seat. The upper end of the stem 34. is arranged in proximity to the stem 36 of the air valve 12, the proximate ends of said. stems being connected by an operating lever 37 by which the two valves 12 and 29 may is provided at its upper end with a flange 26 .to'rest upon the top of the member 21, and is formed with a cavity 27 opening through its top and communicating at its lower end i 40 with ports 28 adapted to register with the grooves 25. When the plug or closure member 21 1s turned-up to a fully applied position, the grooves 25 are disposed so that they are out of register with the ports 28, so
that, the bottom outlet of the mouth piece or nozzle will be closed against the discharge of metal, while when said mouth piece or nozzle is turned downward to a predetermined extent the grooves 25- will be brought in position to communicate with-"the port's 28, when the member 22 is turned to a (irtain position by means of the controlling valve, so that the molten metal may be discharged through'the bottom outlet for under-head vertical casting.
The tapered controlling valve 29 fits with in the valve chamber 14:, and is adapted to be applied and removed through the hotn tom outlet. This valve is formed in its base with sockets 30 to receive pins or projections 31 on the member 22, whereby said member 22 will be coupled to the valve 29 for movement :thei ewith. f-The valve is I ranged in position be simultaneously turned to "feed and cut-oil positions.
When the valve 29 is in the position shown in Fig. 1, and the cut off devices 17 and 21 are adjusted as shown in said view, the spout is closed against the discharge of the metal while the plunger 6 is in raised or retracted position. Itit be desired to make a front horizontal casting, the plate .17 is adjusted to bring the discharge opening 19 into communication with the outlet passage 15 whereupon by turning the lever 37 in, the pntiper direction the valves 12 and 29 its willbe simultaneously opened, the plunger '6 being forced downward and expelling a charge of metal from the sprint and through the valve passage 32, outlet 15 and opening 19 into the die mold, which is suitably archarge of metal.
